Heading up to Three Lakes next Saturday for a week of maintenance/upkeep on the inlaws cottage. I know of the range just north of Eagle River but is there anything closer to Three Lakes?

I'm originally from Sugar Camp, just West of there, and I'm not familiar with any ranges closer than the Vilas county range. The range is considerably improved over what it was twenty years ago. The next option would be to get a membership and key to the Hodag Sports Club. The club rife and pistol range is located on the west side of Rhinelander. Check the sports club website  www.hodagsportsclub.com for any range closures. I've heard about ranges in the Minocqua and Boulder Junction area but this is obviously farther than you are looking to go.

I've lived east of Eagle River for 22 years, so I know the area pretty well. There's nothing that's open to the public near Three Lakes.... except the national forest.  Threes Lakes Preserve has a small range a few miles south, but it's private (only used for those hunting at the preserve... like Ted Nugent). The Conover range on hwy 45 north of Eagle River is the closest established range to Three Lakes.

People have been known to target shoot at an old gravel pit on Sheltered Valley Road, about 5 miles east of Military Road. It's Nicolet National Forest property, and target shooting is legal on the forest away from campgrounds, boat landings, etc..    But the ranger doesn't like "littering", so if you go there, be sure you pick up everything.

Thanks to rfb45colt, I hit Caywood north of Woodruff while in St. Germain a few weeks ago.

Thanks all. I'll probably either hit the Vilas Co range or drive back and find a gravel pit, I know of a couple.
