You SOB!
Wish I could have one again! What year? Have a buddy who has an older FZ1. He's taking the pistons from newer r1 motor (bigger bore with shorter stroke), boring his block, adding Cams from Apex motor and it's supposed to put 180hp at rear wheel with carbs! Come a LONG way since my '94 that had about 130 or so! I will test it for you if you'd like! |
|
It's an 03. I like the look but I may have it repainted someday. Need to see how I like it after this spring :)
This was dyno'd but I do not recall what the HP was... I took it for a spin today. It was cold but well worth it. If you're near Appleton you can take it for a spin :) You should get another one! Even a junker, it's just so fun to ride! |

Loks like fun. I gave it up when the little one came around, I miss it but not enough to get another one.
Absolutely if you haven't done it already is to do a track day (or a bunch of them). I think sport bike track time booked up road america this year. |

This is my 3rd R1. Had an 01' and 06' previous to this.
Why wait till it's warm? Lol Cold R1 |

Since you mentioned wanting to hit 200, I noticed you also want to gear it lower for better acceleration. Kinda fighting each other there. Will presume going to 520 with teh sprockets.
Also, was yammy still carb'd in 03? Dyno jet kit, then mentioned PC. I'd also ride her up to speed before buying a dampener. In addition to STT, there's also http://motovid.com at Blackhawk Farms. Just don't let this rictard pass ypu \ Also, your first mod should be a free mod. Like knocking off those front reflectors |

200+ with only a dyno jet, exhaust, and power commander?
I love R1's and that's a fine bike you have but... No. Sorry. Almost all motorcycles are aerodynamically limited, not power or gear limited in their top speed. Wind resistance at that speed is phenomenal and overcoming it takes a TON of fucking power. R1's just ain't going to do it without either forced induction, Nitrousoxide, and/or serious internal upgrades. Hayabusa's have more displacement, far better aerodynamics(probably the best of any production bike), and still don't hit 200 stock. |

(I'm over the fascination of going ridiculously fast, my stock R1 is plenty enough anyway) |

Like knocking off those front reflectors I must have mis-labeled my intentions. I will never get this bike to 200. Around here I do not know anywhere that is appropriate to do that without putting myself at risk and I do not want to die. Yes, if I were to change out the sprockets for acceleration, it would drastically lower top end speed and also most likely burn out the engine if I were to try and run it up to 200 w/ those sprockets as it changes the gearing ratios and it would not be good for the bike. I prefer acceleration over top speed, I drive within the speed limits around town so top speed does nothing for me. However, it's fun to know that your bike can do a certain top speed and that is my intent. If I wanted to try and clock the top speed, I would change out the sprockets. In town and around here where speed limits are 55 or 65, acceleration is the most relevant factor. |

Hayabusa's have more displacement, far better aerodynamics(probably the best of any production bike), and still don't hit 200 stock. Actually the Hayabusa's and ZX14R's are only electronically limited. The bike itself is capable of doing that but Kawasaki and Suzuki have an agreement to electronically limit their stock bikes to 186 MPH. You can remove the limitation and get around it pretty easily. I know a guy in town that has a Busa and it does over 200, he had it clocked in Arizona at some place where you can do that and they have tracks for testing top speed. R1's can do close to 200 or 200 if you get the right upgrades. I never said those upgrades would get the bike to do 200+, but it'll be close. It doesn't take a lot to get a 15-20 MPH boost. I think it's all a moot point anyway simply because there is no where around here to get it up to 200. I think the idea I was trying to convey was to upgrade it to make it go faster :) This is part of the problem of this forum, you posted only to try and point out something wrong. Add value to the thread or get the fuck out. If you want to discuss the bike doing 200 or not doing 200, then show pics of your bike and THEN try and discredit my post like MonkeyTurbo did. It's no offense when someone adds value first and then discusses something. You posted solely to try and point that out :) Don't troll please! |

If I wanted to run my bike to test top speed, I would change out sprockets for sure. I was just trying to relay my intent to upgrade the bike to make it faster than the other bikes around town :) I have a buddy who bought brand new 2011 R6's for him and his wife. They're matching bikes and they're completely modded. A few of us who ride together have hurt feelings when your R1 or ZX10R gets blown away by an R6 :P. That aint happening to me :) What mods do you have on your R1? |

Some of that might be rider skill Oh yeah, definitely. Rider skill plays a HUGE part. When I got my first rocket last year, it was an 02 GSXR 600 and I slaughtered guys who had R1's but that was only because they didn't know how to drive them. Funny, my gf bought a Ninja 250 last year, I rode it a few times... fun little bikes. The newer ones look really cool. I might buy a ninja 250 next year for her again so we can ride, I love those little bikes! |

I have two kids now, lost my best friend on one some years ago, watched my older brother fight for his life with 2 brain bleeds, and I am a speed idiot. I found that everytime I rode, I had to at least hit 150 once before I parked it. Promised my grandma not to ride again. |

Little off topic, but was it you David that was talking about picking up a liter bike and had the thread explode about how you'll put your eye out on your donorcycle deathmachine? I am just here to have a little time off from working 7 days a week like I usually do :) I still have not lost an eye, limb, or ended up dead. Proved all those trolls wrong! :) |

I am having a HARD TIME locating a business that sells full exhaust systems for the 2003 Yamaha R1... I find slip-ons but I do not see any full exhaust. According to research, there are guys on YouTube who say they have a D&D full exhaust (I would like D&D, I love how obnoxious their exhaust systems sound) but I cannot find a dealer that has them...
If you find one or know of where to get one, let me know. |

Quoted: Quoted: I miss my bikes. Good Lord, does that make me want a bike again. Go get one :) Baby steps The wife does not mind me having toys, so long as the important stuff doesn't languish. We're buying a house hopefully VERY soon, going to be putting in a lot of sweat equity in, starting a family, finishing the 73 Super Beetle that's in the garage (interior needs to be finished, paint), then something with two wheels. I had a 79 GS750 - I miss that bike most of all. My first bike, and just seemed perfect - size, power, weight, comfort. Sold it to a fellow Arfcom friend who's doing some very nice work on it. My second bike was an 89 GS550. The 550 was so nice - stupidly good gas mileage, simple, cheap, with just me on it was plenty fast, light too. My wife misses the rides we would take - not really far or anything, but was so much fun. |

Says the man with a Triumph mwahahaha LOL. Get a ZX10R, nice bikes! :) No thanks. I want to be able to ride more than an hour without back pain. That's why I went from the CBR to the triumph. The Ninja 1000 is nice and upright, but has better brakes, adjustable suspension, etc. that the Triumph doesn't. |
