So....now with WI having CCW, I fully expected to see the post office put up some larger "NO GUNS" signage.

I was suprised to see that today, at the local post office, there are no signs at all! The old ones are gone.

Pretty sure all federal buildings have always had a no weapons policy.

It's illegal to unlawfully posess firearms on postal property.

With that in mind, most post offices had signage with the blanket statement "No Weapons".

I've always been under the impression that the only firearms allowed in a post office are either ones being shipped or ones being carried by law enforcement (postal inspectors, .fed, or state/municipal police)..?

i heard there was a court case going around that some one was challenging it because they can only get their mail from the PO, and that that they were challenging that it was a lawful purpose. i would like to if it ever happens but i don't as i only can get my mail from the po.

I've heard all kinds of things. But the actual law is posted above. There is a separate postal regulation, but iirc, that only applies to postal employees.

Pretty risky if you ask me, and I usually don't have a problem carrying anywhere I legally can.

United States v. Cruz-Bancroft

Also from what I gather 39CFR232.1 is the rule of the day for post offices and somehow trumps 18USC930.

I looked into it and the rabbit hole just gets deeper then expected, when people ask me, my recommendation is to stay off Federal property.

Edited to add: Not sure what happened with this http://www.ammoland.com/2010/11/22/lawsuit-filed-against-post-office-gun-ban/

It'd be nice not to have to keep disarming every time I want to mail some packages...
