truer words have not been spoken. in HTF |
Snowblower has a full tank, plow truck has 1/2 tank, snowmobiles haven't even been uncovered from summer storage yet, and I haven't made a hitch for my new Otter sled yet. Expecting 6-10" in Vilas county. Snow is like "white gold" up here. Bring it on ma' nature. |

Both me and the little woman thru hard work and discipline have made a great life for ourselves and now can afford a few "new" things. Now that we have more time and some resources, we are both a little wore out and some machinery makes our life easier. Our old snowblower (26 years old) was beyond repair. We bought it used, and used it up, like everything we owned back in the day. |

Near the Nichols -Navarino -Briarton area. Pretty rural area out here. I like the fact that we have the range right here so working up loads for my rifles is a skip from the bench to the range. |

Even though I started off in illinois, this has been one wierd winter, been more like fall or a chicago winter than a WI winter from all I can tell. Although back to the white stuff...
As far as I am concerned snow doesn't really bother me at all. We can get 6 inches for all I care, What does bother me at all is getting a few FEET in just a day or 2. |

Just an observation....
Using a pool of my friends, neighbors and co-works/ GF co workers I believe their is a relationship between snow lovers and people who have vehicles that are more capable in the snow than others. Their are of course exceptions to that, but I have noticed that a lot. |

Just because I like destroying it doesn't mean I like playing in the white shit.

If I remember correct the last time we went to the range in the winter I was shooing and you were sitting in the truck crying about cold fingers or toes or something. |

I don't mind snow...I just absolutely HATE driving in it!
Last year a friend got a tow bill and a ticket (driving too fast for conditions). He's white knucklin' crusing along on a 35mph road. A car pulls up to a stop sign. They wait til he got closer...then proceeded to slowly (wheels spinning) pull onto the road. He should have just rearended them, but tried slowing down and ended up spinning into the the ditch. Bastard just slowly kept driving. "Driving too fast for conditions" is the pure definition of insult to injury. I've had that happen to me all the time. Cars will stop, then realize (because of conditions) you're not moving that fast. They think they can make it and proceed to spin their wheels for a couple seconds while you are closing the gap. They then slowly get on the road while your checking up praying there's enough traction and/or distance while you close in on their rear bumper. |

Also, thanks for looking out for me. |

I enjoy the snow. I like clearing snow either by plow or snow blower. I really like driving in it. Of course having 4 wheel drive helps. No I don't think it is the end all be all. No you cannot stopp really any better. I'm not one of those guys. It's the people that drive drive at like 10mph because there are a few flakes of snow on the ground that are the real hazard to everyone out there. Being overly cuatious is dangerous.
Please for the love of GOD turn on you fragging headlights when it is snowing out!!!!! You may be able to see, but the rest of us cannot see you! If you are trying to save wear and tear on your headlights so you don't burn them out, you are a moron. Since I am ranting and most of you know this is a big pet peave of mine. Use your turn signals!!!! Whay is that such a hard concept to comprehend for some people? Do you think you are cool for not using them? Too lazy? Did you vehicle not come equiped with them? I bet you use them when a cop is around. Town in Alaska gets 15 feet of snow. This would be fun once. For those who don't like or hate the snow. you could say move south to a place warmer. I am sure Cuba or Mexico will have you. lol |
| My father burned a few bridges when he left Cuba (specifically he joined the Navy, stole a torpedo boat while the rest of the crew was on leave, scuttled it off the coast of Mexico since he figured a Cuban war ship zipping straight at the U.S, would be blown out of the water, then E&E'd through Mexico to apply for asylum in the US)Ive never been there but I am a junior so I'm sure my name would raise all kinds hell down there.Interestingly I have quite a number of relatives in high positions in both the government and military in Cuba that may include a General,a Minister of Foreign Affairs and a spy.Maybe someday i'll be able to visit and meet the other half of my family. |

I WILL be smoking a cigar tonight when I get to run my "Freedom Fighter Snowblower" Back in the 1950's, my Dad and a few others on a B52 crew were charged with mutiny by the Pilot. The CoPilot, who was also charged, was from Texas, which is not far from Cuba. |

Oh and yes it is snowing here too in oshkosh and I have shoveled once already. wasn't much but still good excecise not to mention the stuff won't get walked/driven on and become a big sheet of ice requiring a ton of salt. Besides then that is that much less snow I have to shovel later too. |

Besides then that is that much less snow I have to shovel later too. There is a Cuban connection to this story. The charges were dropped but the CoPilot was zinged a bit, My Dad was the Navigator/Bombadier. They were stationed in MA at the time. Most of these guys were survivors of the original B52 test program as well. They were all stationed in the South after that with Curtis LeMay. Not long after the Pilot scrambled the entire Southern Airforce. He thought the Cubans were invading. He was wrong (maybe he saw Madbohdi Sr coming?). He was given a choice leave now or finish his career bucked down to a Non comm. He stayed on and every day when he came out from the shack he worked in, the Big Texan and My Dad would be standing there so he would have to salute them. He snapped. The Mutiny charges were brought because my Dad and the CoPilot took control of the B52 from the Pilot. At one point my Dad held his Navigator controls while the Texan got his baseball bat and threatened to kill the Pilot. A B52 with nukes over a major city with an engine out and a dumbass pilot can make a real mess. The sad thing is, in the process maybe they saved the Kennedy's? I hope this turns into a blizzard! Freedom storm 2012. PS if you need help visualizing it, just watch Dr. Strangelove. |
|
Quoted:
Mutiny is a pretty serious charge, what were they being accused of? So is Desertion! Our Dad's would have got along just fine. My Grandfather E&E'd across parts of Turkey and Greece to get here, but unlike you I can go back to Greece, I just choose not too. Greeks and Cubans living in the snowbelt. Freedom is great. |

Dude, he shoulda sold the boat to the Mexicans. Woulda doubled the size of their Navy! That's a pretty cool story. I've got enough work piled up at work that I can stay busy until 9 PM. I might just do that and let everybody else bang into one another's cars...then drive home later. Gotta get it out of their systems ya know.
