So If I own NFA machineguns and move across the street to a new address in my same WI town;

I fill out a 5320.20

Question: do I need a special letter from the CLEO that he is aware of this?

The reason I ask is there was some scuttlebut months ago about CLEO awareness and NFA machineguns in WI.

Thanks

good question, try asking this in the NFA section, there's more knowledgeable traffic.

No.

No 5320.20 is required for in state moves. You CAN fill one out if you'd like, but it is not required.

When I moved in state, I mailed the NFA branch of the ATF a letter to inform them of the change of address. I got an official letter back stating that the registry has been updated. Better safe than sorry.

I just sent in a 5320.20. I figured if i'm going to send something, best to just use what they are familiar with.

I'd be cool and shoot the sheriff a quick note saying I'm across the street now.  As for ATF, do the 5320.20 and just mail in duplicate.  It's an improper use of the form (technically it's for interstate moves), but they never quibble over it.
