my buddy keeps sayin how he wants to get his wife a carry .22 ...
then keeps sayin he doesnt want her with a .380 or anything bigger because she hates the recoil and wont go to the range i realize there are decent .380s out there for recoil, hell ive shot a few .. but none the less, he keeps talking about a .22 funny because im thinking about a .22 for my wife just for the range .. but he says she cant carry a .22 legally in wisconsin? says .22's are banned from CC? is that right? i guess i could almost see why, but then again why? thanks .. just wanna end the argument LOL

Just wow... No, .22 LR handguns are not banned from CCW. I find it disturbing that your buddy isn't concerned about finding ways to get his wife to shoot better and is willing to settle for a mediocre self defense round, at best. Yes, .22's have killed people. But they are not reliable. They don't tend to stop the aggression right here and now. The ammunition itself is prone to misfires and malfunctions. Unless she has a medical condition that prohibits her from being able to handle a handgun, there is training out there that can help his wife become comfortable with a 9mm or even a 45 ACP. I would strongly recommend that he invest in that, instead. |
|
ahhh ... could be the hunting thats throwing him off! good catch
as far as the training .. i agree .. but she is partially handicapped and has a tough time with arm strength .. that being said i still think she will just be at the range, so maybe he can build her up to something else i tried gettin him to buy a GSG .22 1911 so i can buy it when shes done with it LOL THANKS GUYS! .. already emailed him this thread LOL |

No one would want to get shot with one. But I also know a lot about what it takes to stop a threat. The issues that require the use of a concealed weapon and deadly force are ones that I want the most reliable calibers possible. It's not a time to load it with Remington bulk box and get a click instead of a bang. It's not a time to have to figure out how to clear it. I have not seen a 22 yet that you could do immediate action drills on and clear reliably like their enterfire counterparts.
LE carry 9mm, 40 S&W, and 45 ACP's for a reason. Not 22's. Use the 22 for low cost training. Get her used to shooting and working on fundamentals. But work towards at least a 9mm or 38 Special minimum. There are ways to make it work unless she has a medical or physical issue where she can't physically do it. |

DRT Don't laugh off the .22 magnum. It's a wicked litte SOB. I've seen what it does to coyotes... complete pass through both shoulders with a fairly big exit hole for a .22 caliber, and from a Ruger Single Six, not a rifle. A buddy traps yotes and carries a Single Six in .22 mag. He says it "kills 'em quicker than a .38". I'd prefer it over a .32 ACP, and maybe even a .380. I'd rather be able to hit my target with it than miss with something bigger. A .22 mag snubbie, like the Taurus 941 or S&W (with a Crimson Trace), might be the perfect gun for a recoil shy woman novice. No worries about jams or clearing the misfire of a semi-auto. Better than no gun at all, and certainly more reliable than most small semi-auto .32s & .380s. The Taurus holds 8 rounds of .22mag. |
