I've been reading a lot about appleseed shoots recently and i really want to go to one. I've been told by recruiters at our poolee range trip that i am an excellent marksman and i was the best shot out of the group but i know i can fine tune some things and make myself that much better. To help excell during my Marine career.

I do plan on to attend my first appleseed with an A3/A4 20" rifle, my plan is to be an expert with the weapon system before i ship out.

So is there any input or advice you guys could give me as far as going about this? Like, what sling, where the best range is that holds these events, ammo, etc?

Thank you so much!

I am an Appleseeed instructor and one of the WI range coordinators.  I have also coached at the Poolee shoots.  Did you attend the Poolee shoot in Suamico this past weekend?   I am glad you enjoyed it.  The Poolee shoot is designed to simply expose you to the recoil of the 5.56 round and give you a brief introduction to the AR15/M16 platform.   Shooting supported from a sand bag at a bench is no indication what it is like to shoot from the positions you will use on the rifle range in boot camp.
When do you ship out?  Are you local to the Green Bay area?  We have an Appleseed this coming weekend at the same range which the Pooolee shoot was held at (Nicolet Rifle Club in Suamico).   There are also Appleseeds at Hubertus and New Lisbon this coming weekend.  You can get a huge head start on rifle qualification by attending an Appleseed but it is only 2 days and not all ranges have the opportunity to shoot full distance.  You will get 2 weeks of training and shoot out to 500 yards in boot camp.  It takes much more than a single weekend to become an Expert, but you will learn the essentials and have a good base to go off of.

.We instruct the use of the same sling you will have in the Corps. You can order them off of the Appleseed web site http://www.appleseedstore.flyingcart.com/index.php?p=detail&pid=10&cat_id=   or from Midway, etc.  Usually one of the instructors will have extras for sale at the shoot also.
I would recommend that you use the Federal Bulk packs of .223/5.56 which Fleet Farm and Dunhams, etc sells.  They are plenty accurate and reliable enough and the price is right.  Forget about Wolf.  Federal has priced Wolf out of the running.
