So I was on a nice bit of private land. Everyone warned me that they've never NOT filled up their bag limit within 15 minutes of opening. We saw 4 ducks the whole day, and only one came within range. Later, at a trap club, I heard some other guys talking about how there were just no ducks anywhere. How was your opening day?

lot of ducks flying out of the marsh before dark here. I wasn't too far away from Fremont: so interesting to hear you say that. just got back in form fishing and had the largest flock of ducks I have ever seen go over and land in the auroraville mill pond. |

Lots of shooting on the Rainbow Flowage on Saturday. 3 of us got 2 mallards and 3 teal.... missed a heck of lot more birds. The Rainbow is up to it's maximum capacity, and some willow woods got flooded. That's where the birds were. We had to walk and flush them up, knee deep in water. Only one flock came into the decoys we had out on the lake shore. But no geese. The last few years we've shot more geese than ducks. Haven't seen a single flock of migrators coming down yet this year.
edit: 2 of us went back this morning (monday). We missed an easy 20yd shot on a drake mallard right after opening, but made up for it about an hour later when 4 ringnecks came into our dekes... none left, splashed all 4. We took another walk through the flooded willows about 9, and got a couple more. We kicked about 50 ducks out, but most got up out of range. With just two of us, we couldn't "surround" them. Two of the stragglers weren't quick enough on their getaway. We'll be back at it again in the morning. |

I wonder why None hasn't posted yet, or FMD? I thought they went out this weekend...? Because the southern zone does not start until October 2nd. FMD has been out goose hunting a couple of times tho. We'll let some go through for you guys down there. |
