This is why I liked South Africa, they may have had thunderstorms everyday and crazy lightning, but no threat of tornado's.

Thats true, but I do love the place.  I seriously thought about living there for awhile longer.  (1-2 years longer on top of the 2 years that I already did)

One of my good friends there is a gunsmith, he builds double rifles.  If I would have stayed I would have lived with his family and worked with them and learned the trade.

South African author Roger Smith has written some fantastic crime novels.

About 20 minutes ago I saw a big bright white flash coupled with an explosion, followed by the siren from the lift station on my corner. Me thinks something blew up.

If you are a police officer (or has family that is) and you went to the World Cup in South Africa and you lost your camera, PM me I found it.

There is a good shootout at the end.  I liked the movie but that is because I lived in Johannesburg and I wanted to see if I recognized anything.  I did like the Afrikanns curse words though.

Nope sorry.  Not a police officer, and I left South Africa in March.

Why were you in South Africa for two years?

Just curious.

I took a near hit. Fried my DSL modem, router, main PC, two Cisco 1900s, few other devices. All were on UPS. The only thing I can figure is the phone line too a hit, came in to the DSL modem, and went out over the network. Many other customers had similar problems. WE had about 15 minutes notice, just long enough to get all the chickens and animals locked down, and get in the basement. Then the flooding started. The woman said it was like "submarine movies, where water starts spraying out little holes". It's an old fieldstone foundation. I think the pressure built up too quick, so it came in every crack. We don't normally have that problem, but the flood came on pretty quick.
