I will be infiltrating your operating area at the end of this month.
I will be taking all of your hot wimmenz. I will be buying all of the ammo on the shelf.
Actually, I'm a pretty nice guy and I'm moving up to the Northwoods. Hope to see some of you around! |

define 'northwoods'.
i'm sure some of the inmates here can give you the low down on shooting in your new area. I'm in Green Bay and really like shiocton public range. (although I did meet the guy who was responsible for the richochet issue) I've been shooting there for a year and it's better than any club in my county. |

I'm going to be in the Three Lakes area. I do not fear the black bears interference in my evil honeymaking plans. I will squash them. I think there is a range up by Eagle River, but I don't know anything about it. I've never CCW'd before, so I'm not losing much on that front, but from some of my research, it looks like that might be changing soon? Like when Doyle is out this November? I guess if I ever feel the need, I will OC, but I definitely plan to assist in the fight for CC. Oh ya, and to abolish the 48hr wait period on handguns. |

No... wait... sorry. (phew) Nope. Not yet.
(sigh) Although they are nice to cuddle with when it gets cold. I'll give you that. But yeah, we'll PROBABLY get shall-issue CCW of some sort once Doyle is gone in the 2011 legislative session. We've passed it twice with initial veto-proof majorities only to have him buy off one or two Democrats on the actual override session. So there SHOULD be enough pro-gun Democrats from rural districts to pass it on a simple 51% majority in both houses. The only caveat is that if the Democrats hold either house with a majority after fall's elections, the current leadership/speakers etc. are very anti-gun, and may deep-six the bill from seeing the floor for an up/down vote somehow. OTOH, they may not want to spend the political capital to do that, and because that trick was played once before in 2001 when the current speaker ended the session with legislators screaming at him to take the vote. That guy (Chuck Chavala) was since convicted and did some time for other problems related to his tenure. Oh, and the 48 hour wait on handguns isn't TOO bad. Simply because when the rest of the nation that didn't have a waiting period went automatically to five days under the .fed Brady Law. Now that NICS/insta-check is online, it sucks, but looking at the history of it, it was better than many states. |

Welcome to the area (I'm just outside of Eagle River). Did you buy a house, or are you renting? There's been lots of foreclosures in this area lately, so there's quite a few "bargain" homes available. I'm not a realtor trying to sell you something, just some advice from someone who's been here 20 yrs. My wife works at a local bank doing collections, & when necessary, foreclosures... and she's been very busy. The range you mentioned is about 5 miles north of downtown Eagle River on hwy 45 (look for a brown sign with white lettering on the east side of the road). It has just been re-opened after some extensive "safety improvements".... much higher berms with "bullet catchers" made of used highway guardrail on the top, as suggested by a NRA range expert. This range is owned by Vilas County, is managed by Vilas County Forestry Dept. It's not "monitored" and it's use is free (but there is a donation receptacle at the range to help fund upkeep. Most guys I know stick $5 or $10 per shooter- per trip in there). There's a 50' pistol range, 25 / 50 / 100yd rifle ranges. Each has it's own bench, and each bench can accomodate two shooters. There is also a seperate area for clay targets & shotguns. You must bring your own target thrower. Range hours are 7am til 8pm or sunset, whichever comes first. It's open 7 days per week, but closes down in the winter. Only paper or cardboard targets are allowed on the pistol/rifle ranges, and only clay birds on the shotgun range. All targets must be on the plywood backstops on the pistol/rifle ranges... nothing on the ground in front of the backstops nor on the berms behind the backstops. No caliber restrictions, but full-auto firing is not allowed... this doesn't mean rapid semi-auto is prohibited (if you've got a NFA item, I've got a private range were you can shoot it... as long as I get to play too. FWIW... target shooting is also allowed in the Nicolet National Forest... but if you leave anything behind, and they catch you, you'll get a littering ticket. There's an old gravel pit in the Nicolet, not far from Three Lakes, where I've shot before. Take hwy 32 east, turn north on Military Rd, turn east on Sheltered Valley road, and look for the pit on the north side of the road. Edited to add: If you need or want to buy any new toys (guns) there's a FFL on the Three Lakes town board. He lives just outside of town. And one more thing.... there aren't any "hot wimmenz" around here.

Stay up north, and out of my AO. Besides, all the good looking ones are down south. |

Correct me if I am wrong, but don't a whole bunch of people vacation up there on a regular basis...ie...lot's of the fairer sex? Thanks for the info on the range...I'm somewhat glad there are no range nazi's, but with that, I kinda worry about the *ahem* judgment of people to follow the rules and common sense. |

Some of the counselors at the girls camps are pretty hot.... but don't look for them in the bars, they're not old enough. And if you like "foreign" women, there's a big influx (in the summer) of girls from eastern Europe, who get a work visa, and come here to work at the camps and resorts. I've seen some really really good looking ones this year working at the laundry in Eagle River.... practice up on your language skills, cuz they don't speak english. |
