This course will be taught by the Staff of Defensive Edge and SLR15 Rifles, who have been featured in SWAT Magazine, Guns & Ammo Magazine Tactical Guns & Gear Annual, Shooting Times, Gun Digest, Guns & Weapons For Law Enforcement Magazine, and Precision Rifle Magazine. Our courses has been taught for a decade all over the country. In recent years, Law Enforcement Officers have found themselves responding to in-progress situations like active shooters in schools, workplaces, shopping malls and factories. In an effort to better deal with these types of incidents, Law Enforcement Agencies are equipping their Officers with patrol rifles and training them in active shooter response. There has also been a noticeable increase in Officers responding to sniper incidents where a suspect(s) are shooting from an elevated or concealed position. Globally there is an increase in Terrorism, of which has seen a rise here in the United States, and unfortunately, will most like seen an increase. Agencies need to consider the implementation of a Designated Marksman. A Designated Marksman is not a Law Enforcement SWAT Sniper, rather it is a highly trained and skilled Officer who works patrol and is equipped with a magnified scoped semi-automatic AR-15 type rifle with a bipod. The Designated Marksman will be able to deliver an accurate shot at close and long distances. Our emphasis is to have a Designated Marksman Officer working patrol, who will be able to respond to in progress situations where an accurate shot must be taken at close quarters or long distances, on individual or multiple suspect(s). Some of these situations may include an active shooter, active sniper, in-progress hostage incident where SWAT has not arrived yet and has elevated to the point that lethal force must be used, and Terrorist Incidents like Beslan. This is a 3-day, 24 hour course, where Officers will be trained as a Designated Marksman Instructor. Designated Marksman Instructors will be able to set up a Designated Marksman program at their own agency and train other officers. This course is unique in that the Designated Marksman Instructor will be tasked in training another Officer from their or other agency as part of the course. This is not a SWAT Sniper Course; it is a course based on immediate response by Patrol before a SWAT team can be utilized, and is based on the AR15 type rifle for this role (This is Not a .308 Bolt Gun Sniper Based Course). Loadout: (Minimum Suggestion) * AR-15 Type Rifle (16”, 18”, 20” or 24” barrel) in .223/5.56 caliber, free float tube is recommended, and bipod will make it more user friendly. * The rifle should be equipped with a quality “magnified” optic/scope on a good mount. * The rifle should also have a sling. * The rifle should also be in a protective case for transport in a patrol car (hard or soft is fine) * 3-Rifle Magazines * 400rds of quality American-made ammunition * 50rds of Duty or Match Grade Ammunition * Eye & Ear Protection * Patrol Medical Bag or Rapid Deployment Bag that is set up with emergency medical trauma gear * Patrol Body Armor * Patrol Car that can be deployed from and shot from (Students can share). * Cleaning Equipment (We will be shooting from inside and outside of vehicles, the ground, kneeling, so things like gloves, a piece of carpet or shooting mat, knee & elbow pads are recommended, but not required.) We will be shooting from inside and outside of vehicles, the ground, kneeling, so things like gloves, a piece of carpet or shooting mat, knee & elbow pads are recommended, but not required Note: On day 3, the Designated Marksman Instructors will be tasked with teaching an Officer from their agency or another agency in the use and role of the Designated Marksman and the equipment.
