Hey Flame,
What's the shelf life on reloaded ammo? Can primers and case necks be sealed at home? |
|
ammo should outlast you if stored in a cool dry area.
as far as sealing the ammo, im not sure, however i too was curious about that a while back so i soaked some bullets for a few days in a cup of water and some in a cup of oil. all fired when i took them out of their perspective glasses and dried them off. wolf 7.62X39 9mm factory WWB 308 surplus LC 223 surplus 12 gauge ranger buckshot 45 ACP reload 9mm Reload 223 reload 308 reload |

Hey Flame, What's the shelf life on reloaded ammo? Can primers and case necks be sealed at home? As already said, fingernail polish is normally used to seal both ends. It is extra added waterproofing. Shelf life, as stated is the same as any other loaded ammo. It will generally out last the maker if stored properly. |

How about powder in their plastic containers? Mike Powder stored in their original opaque contaners and titghly sealed in a climate controlled environment they should last better than 50 years. When it breaks down you will start to get an acetone or ammonia smell. Then it's time to go. |

I've heard of painting finger nail polish on the primers, but not on the case necks. Just paint it on and keep it thin I'm assuming? Seems awfully tedious to do one round at a time. Is there some contraption that can speed up the process? |

Not really aware of any that are not indertured servants. I use clear polish staght from the bottle. Works fine. You could thin it a little if you want. Yes it is a big PITA. Done in front of the tv makes it less of a nusance. |
