So, since I'm a relative newbie to arfcom, I don't know if this is a WI 'tradition', but last year both myself and my father-in-law had a blast at the RCLRC winter shoot.
Is that happening again? |

You know what would be awesome? It would be great if the arfcommer that walked away with the RCLRC blow-out kit at last year's shoot would return it. Just a friendly PSA while we're on the subject. The club has some fanny packs with medical supplies used to treat major trama at the range. One of the kits went missing at last Januarys shoot. Was taken off a shooting bench and would be nice if it was returned. BTH |

I attended the last shoot and had a good time. Met some nice people and got to shoot some fun toys like a FA mac11 and a suppressed SBR. |

Thanks for all the offers to replace the kit/kit contents. I built a few of them, so we're not totally screwed by one going missing. When we came up short a few months ago, it was explained to me that it went missing during the Arfcom shoot, and that little tidbit pissed me off but good. |

I'm going to start chastising the "buy in" guys a little more. I think they've earned it. JR Ya know some of us have lives. Between the kids school, church, work and simple around the house crap that needs doing I hardly have time to go to the range. It simply makes more sense to pull a few hours of overtime here and there and that would not take nearly as much time away from my family as working it off at the range If everybody at rclrc has this kind of attitude then Ill take my money else ware |

I'm not ( this is part of the chastisement I was talking about). So far you are doing great. SL, I live an hour and a half away from RCLRC, work two jobs, manage to get in anywhere from 40-60 work hours per year, and I've actually had only one "shooting" day at the range in the last 18 months or so. My wife sits on the board of RCLRC, puts in 60 hour weeks at her job, manages to get 60-80 work hours per year in addition to board meetings, and she's probably had one "shooting" day at the range in two years. JR (racecar) lives at least an hour away, puts in at least 40 hours a year (my guess is much more), and I can't even remember the last time I saw him at the range with a gun. My point is that RCLRC needs folks who are willing to help out in exchange for the ability to use the facility. Hell, it's part and parcel to who we are. There are exceptions of course, but unless you are physically disabled, it's hard to come up with a time management excuse when members who are busier than a one-armed paper hanger and live in a different state manage to get their work hours in where you're claiming you can't. Some folks (racecar and I included) end up sacrificing the time at the range when we should be shooting to help out because there are people out there that won't step up. Folks who would rather just drop some coin to use the facilities might be better served by heading to one of the indoor ranges that rent by the hour. If that's you and you'd rather spend your money elsewhere, so be it. |

FWIW, I am a RCLRC member.
Yes, their hours requirement is strict. Actually, I don't know of any other club that has a tougher requirement. I also understand why it could be trouble for those with long work hours, family commitments, those who are attending school, etc. That all said, I don't know of ANY other club within a distance of the Milwaukee metro area where nearly anything goes. Yeah, you can find places that are okay with pistol cal SMGs. Sometimes. But you're at a short range and the smoke from 650-1,400 RPM adds up. (Blow your nose after 10 minutes of Uzi shooting at an indoor range and you'll see what I mean.) My M16? I couldn't shoot it anywhere within a few hours, so I sold it off. Same story with my AK47. My 99? Same trouble, but I've still got it. But now I've got a place. Nothing's perfect, and working all four days of deer sight wasn't as fun as being out and doing whatever. But giving up two weekends a year in order to fire off nearly anything within 30 minutes of home is a decent trade. Now, if only I can convince them to be cool with my 82mm...

Mike You are correct in what you say. Deer sight in is what you make of it. I enjoy doing it as it feels good to help out all of those people, especially the kids along with seeing familiar and new faces every year. Don't forget getting to shoot all kinds of different guns........like yours. I thank you for the privilege. |

I would like to join the RCLRC as I live right next to it and hear great things about them. If we had an early spring shoot I would love to go and check out the range at that time. +1 This minus the live right next to it part. Indeed, living up here in the frozen tundra does have it's disadvantages. |
