I was at the Union Grove show last weekend.  I was looking for  a 30-30 The very first table in the door had one.   I looked at all the other tables then came back to the first table.  This dealer had all his guns tie wrapped shut so you could not look down the bore  or work the action ( I did not see any other dealers with the guns tie wrapped shut.).  I asked him to cut the tie wrap. He said no, I said I will buy a gun I can't see down the bore or work the action He walked away laughing.
So to the little Bald headed troll at the first table with the 30-30, YOU Blew It I had the cash and was ready to buy.

Try looking at your local Fleet Farm. I bought one at my local one
either last year or the year before, and paid $249.99 brand new.
(Mine was a Marlin 336) At the same time the local gougers at
Gander Mountain wanted $250 for a used one.
Good deals can still be had if you look around and aren't trying
to buy whatever the "hot" gun of the moment is.

The days of the new sub $300 .30-30 are long gone.  Not even Fleet Farm has had them in a couple of years.  $250 is a GREAT price for a nice used Marlin.

I paid $350 for a winchester 94 (1947) this last winter in feb. It was in such good condition I couldnt pass on the deal. I shot it 3 times and them put it in my safe and that is where it will stay.

The deals are out there.

The same 336?  I never studied up on them, but I've noticed there seems to be some variants of the model 336.   I know the 336W has the gold colored trigger, other than that I don't know what all the differences are (other than the price).

Some of those booth owners are nuts and have awful attitudes.

I wonder why some of them even come back.  There is one booth in particular who I see at every show for a few years now when I started going.  They sell mainly milsurps and their prices are anywhere from 50%-400% over fair market value.  I have never seen anyone purchase anything from them.  They must make money, or else they wouldn't keep coming... but the entire situation is baffling.

they probably get one unknowledgable person to buy something and it funds them to keep comong. I went to the last waukesha one and there was a guy just like that. He was selling mosin nagants for like $200 and the were not worth anything near that. He had them marked as rare russian rifles. I did however see someone had written "dont pay this price" and "he is ripping you off" on some of the back sides of the price tags.

Who ever that was you rock.
