Hi,

I just moved to back NW Chicago.  I haven't been able to find any ranges and a friend recommended Bristol.  I was looking at their website and their rules say no more than 5 rds/pistol and only one round/mag for rifles?

Is this serious?  Am I reading this wrong?  If I brought my AR I would have to fire, reload, fire reload?

Thanks

I did some more reading so I got the answer.  What an idiotic rule.

I saw McMiller mentioned a couple times, but their website goes to Wern Valley????????

This is correct.  I hear if you want to do a "mag check"  (aka test that more than one round loads, for um the whole mag), you must call a range officer over.

Rumor also has it, you can load up a full mag and fire VERY slowly and they won't mind.  But this is a rumor and I would double check with the range officer first if you plan to not stick to the range rules to the letter.

McMiller and Wern Valley are kind of the same thing or at least the same general place.

It is a DNR/gov owned range, run by contract.  The contract holder just changed.  Read that thread in this forum for more details.

Thanks.  I'd rather drive farther north to spend my money than deal with "magazine checks" and other BS.

I'll try to find the thread on McMiller, but my only question is do they still operate the longer distance rifle range for the $20 or so mentioned previously.

edit- dammit it was on the first page and I missed it... looks like I'll be headin up there soon.

Thanks

Bristol makes a lot of dough leasing their admittedly nice range to LEO groups on off days on a regular basis so whats the incentive for them to relax the rules?

I don't get it.  Are they afraid the gun is gonna go full auto and start spraying rounds indiscriminately?

The one in the pipe is the dangerous one.  Cease fire clearing and range breaks to check targets are where most muzzle and loaded gun issues come into play and with good RO's this doesn't have to be an issue.

Look at their website.  They are constantly looking for RO's.

Given my experience with some of their RO's, they display a startling lack of firearm knowledge and customer skills so to play it safe they have this single-load rule in a mistaken attempt to make things "safer".

I think they are taking the wrong approach, but hey, the parking lot is packed when ever I drive by..........................

Just my take.......take it FWIW.
