I'm hoping some you would be willing to help me out. I'm in search of a farm or some public land where I might go out and test my pig hunting skills. We don't have any in northern MN, so I was hoping you fine people of Wisconsin would be of some assistance. |

Check out the WI DNR website. They have info there. It is a few years old but it is the most that I have found.I have been told that most landowners were swamped with hunting request, and many won't allow any more. That also was a few years back.Nothing new has come down the pike in sometime.I to am trying hard to find out more. You will find that almost half of the 72 counties have had at least 1 sighting. Many with confirmed kills.
Wisconsin at onetime had 3 places to go shoot pigs, behind a fense of course. The DNR shut them down and then we started to find pigs running in the state.Go figure. |

Pigs in Crawford and Western Richland Cnty are reported to be down...fewer sitings by turkey & mushroom hunters
We had fall and spring floods and two harsh winters in a row...two winters ago started early with heavy ice covering up the food supply for a lot of critters.. Fewer coyotes this year as well...at least around these parts... |
| If you want to avoid disappointment, your best bets are to raise your own, seek out private hunts that I have seen ads for in NE WI and Northern MN, or travel to states with documented pig populations for a hunt, such as AR, MO, TX, etc.... Anything other than these are going to result in disapointment if you're really looking to shoot a wild pig. I don't know where your LAX friend is getting his information, but he better tell you where he says in Vernon its the hotspot. Godfather for one of my kids is from Vernon and still is very active in that county. If there was pig hunting to be had, he would have called me up a long time ago to go do it, as we both would love the experience. His family is active in hunting, and they havn't reported anything. There was a wild pig shot up in a valley near the fish hatchery on State Hwy 35 near Genoa a few years ago, but to my knowledge there are no others. |

Hmm, I always thought pigs were "shoot on sight" critters...
From DNR website:
Feral Pig Hunting Information The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has adopted the position that feral pigs are exotic, non-native wild animals that pose significant threats to both the environment and to agricultural operations. The Department promotes aggressive removal anywhere feral pigs are reported. Feral pigs are considered unprotected wild animals with no closed season or harvest limit. Feral pigs may be removed any time throughout the year as long as those choosing to pursue them possess a valid small game license and the permission of the landowner where they intend to hunt. Also, landowners may shoot feral pigs on their own property without a hunting license, under DNR's animal nuisance control authority. It is illegal to operate a captive feral pig hunting facility in the state of Wisconsin. It is also illegal to stock feral pigs for hunting purposes or to release hogs into the wild. Should such illegal practices be discovered in your area, contact and alert your local conservation warden immediately. http://dnr.wi.gov/org/land/wildlife/HUNT/Pig/Pig_Hunting.htm |

Both. They were in the news because they were something rare in WI, and the DNR wanted them gone right now before we got populations like southern states. If you think about it, when an issue is limited to just one county in a state, its not really that big of a population. The issue was that if the population got any bigger, it would be a problem, so shoot-on-sight ads were pretty much aggressively pursued.
We don't mind you coming over for hunting and fishing! You just are going to be VERY disappointed if you're looking for feral pigs here. |

Maybe I will just stick to fishing the Brule. Besides I can do that and drink lots of beer and eat delicious cheese curds at the same time. That's another question, Why the hell are your cheese curds WAY FREAKIN' BETTER than ours? I just live over the bridge we should have the same quality or product. |

Anybody know anything about Vernon County. I have a friend in LaCrosse that said that was the place to go. After what I have read from you guys I am kind of skeptical as to whether or not there are still any piggies out there. Fort McCoy in nearby Monroe county had a shoot on sight policy toward wild pigs the past two deer seasons. |

That's exactly what I want to do, I hope that one or more of those pics include you. |
