Just signed up for the up comming (june 6-7) Appleseed in Shiocton !!
I'm really looking forward to it. Who else is coming ? |
|
The Shiocton shoot is a good time. I will be there for sure. Lots of room and we take a group to shoot full distance while the rest sticks to 25M. The field is mowed grass which is nice but you still need to watch things if it rains. It is a couple of weeks later this year from last, so hopefully it will be all dry, not that last year was really wet. We were able to get in 2 full days of shooting last year. We had a pretty high percentage of Riflemen compared to some other shoots.
If this is your first Appleseed, you should drop on over to the Appleseed board and check out the FAQs. Most any question you may have has already been asked and answered. If you can't find the answer, feel free to ask. |

Where's the Appleseed board with the FAQs? There is not a single FAQ with all of the information available. There are several which each give you a piece of the pie, plus a forum full of good info. These 2 will get you started.: http://www.appleseedinfo.org/as_faq.htm http://appleseedinfo.org/smf/index.php?topic=101.0 |

I asked before and got a link but it didn't tell me much of anything these do. At least I know what rifles I could bring. Seems that little tid bit has been left out other places. I have a question though. Is there any real benifit to go? It will cost me plenty to put up the dogs, travel, lodging and shoot costs. If it is just to practice shooting I can do that here. What is the point if not to compete? Looks as if it is a fun shoot designed to promote marksmanship. That is fine for some I guess but not too motivating for me. |

I would never chategorize an Appleseed as just a "fun" shoot although it is definitely enjoyable. The analogy is that you are drinking from a fire hose while you are there if you have no experience in High Power shooting or Marine Corps/Army, etc type marksmanship training in the prone, sitting, off-hand, kneeling etc positions. It is very difficult to drill yourself or to sit back and watch yourself shoot in order to get rid of bad habits. You can read a book on how to properly do something, but some things you will never quite get right by yourself and marksmanship is one of them. There is plenty of competition if you wish to make it that. You are first most competing against yourself. You are proving to yourself that you can attain the basic proficiency of a Rifleman. You can make it a personal competition in that you are trying to score better than anyone else there in the AQT tests. Unless you can show up and shoot a perfect score every time, there will always be a benefit to going. The other benefit is the social interaction with others interested in learning marksmanship and interested in learning some history regarding the events leading up to and which occurred on April 19th 1775. I find that there is always something to be learned from others whether they are less or more skilled than myself at any particular venture. If you are already an expert Marksman and can score a perfect score on a 500 yard known distance course of fire, then I would encourage you to come and help the many people who can not and would appreciate any help and advice which you could give them......

| The Marine Corps is my background and multiple expert awards backing my experience. True my shooting isn't probably that of when I was 19, but I'm still shooting well enough not to be worried I'll miss a stationary target at 500 yards. Once my M21 is done just to see how tight I could group wouldn't be a complete bore, but let drop back a few hundred more yards and make it interesting then shall we? Though shooting the M4 could be fun I guess? I'll give it some thought. Is there a deadline to sign up? |

Is there a deadline to sign up? Sounds like you could us some "refresher" training.... The deadline is when the class fills up. If you show up the day of the shoot, there is an additional $10 charge for not pre-registering. |

But not retired .Mil...... I emailed there website to ask why, and no response yet........ The line has to be drawn somewhere. Eventually everyone will likely be paying full price. The RWVA is a non-profit organization and there are very real costs involved in hosting an Appleseed. The point to the Appleseed program is to bring in new shooters. Women are the least represented demographic in shooting sports followed by young Americans. Active duty service men and women are sacrificing right now for our country. Those of us who are Veterans should not feel slighted that active duty are given a little extra perk. I personally have a sense of not doing enough because of currently not being active duty and am not worried about what someone will or will not give me for free.

Yep, it rained..........then it rained some more, and then it got cold and rained yet even more! I shot a 210(maybe, as I have to have the instrucor look at my target tomorrow.one round is about .03 of an inch from the line, but I was shooting a .22 cal rimfire, and may be eligible for a little leeway) Sunday we stretch the legs out a bit. And I asked if I could use my Bohica .50 BMG for it, but they said no. |

I hope you found some cheap ammo The first part of the day will still be at 25M. Hopefully the weather clears up early so that the Riflemen can move over to the full distance course 100-400M. |

This was a lot of fun. I think I learned a lot at this event for sure. I ended up bailing out early on Sunday due to the crappy weather but I allready signed up for the Suamico Appleseed and will be preparing and studying so I can hopefully go into that one and get some better scores.

I was there and I had a great time. Don't think I would have had a better time if it was sunny. The weather made the results more satisfying. Nice score your first time out too.. must have been the weather |
