...Is cutting back how many boxes of ammo you can purchase. None, me and my buddy Pete stopped in at Gander yesterday, I know.... you don't even have to say it! Pete had a certificate to use there. So we stopped in to get some clay pigeons and some shotgun shells. Bought two boxes of pigeons and he had a case (ten boxes of WIN AA shotgun shells). The gal at the desk said.... You can only purchase three boxes at once. Then she points to a placard on the checkout counter. It said something to the effect of "due to the recent buying frenzy of ammunition customers will only be allowed to purchase three boxes of ammo at a time." We told her this was probably geared towards pistol and rifle ammo and shotgun shouldn't be effected. No dice. I also bought some rifle powder. And then told her I had enough powder to load about 700 rds. and maybe she should only trickle out enough powder to equal three boxes.... not even a smile. I know we shouldn't have even stopped there. And from now on, they get ZERO of my dollars. This Public Service Announcement was brought to you by Monster, the drink of champions! ps. And yes we had a blast shooting clays, pistol shooting and rifle. I learned to bump fire. very cool. And None shot trap for the first time (so he says, he rarely missed!)

I was just there yesterday too and saw that. I might have to purchase a gun safe from there if Cabela's doesn't have any better deals. :( I wouldn't pay there jacked up prices for a gun safe, check like Tractor Supply or if you are in south central WI try Recobs in Sauk they both sell nice gun safes for much better deals than you will get at Cabelas or Gander. Heck Fam and Fleet or Dicks would be better than going to Gander. |

Quoted: I went to Gander last night just to see if they even had any 9mm. What a disgusting experience. $29 for 50rd WWB 185gr 40 S&W!! $14 for 20rd WWB 55gr 5.56!! I never saw the quantity limit sign, and it won't matter as I will never buy there again! you can't miss it. It is right where you set the items you are buying down. What got to me is the amount of 12 ga. ammo they had sitting there. Must be close to 1000 boxes of shotgun shells. But limit is three. Eff that. Walmart here I come. Time to break out the MEC loader again I guess. |

My buddy was at the GB gander and he said they had small rifle primers for $9.xx a box of 100. When the fuck are they gunna learn.
Wait until Sportsmans Warehouse closes the doors for good. You think its bad now, gander will be the only one left and im sure their prices will go through the roof! |

Where is the best deal on shot, powder, primers, etc. for shotshell loading. Used to go to Midwest Shooters supply, but that was 15 years ago. Anyone? |

There was another Canon dealer in town but it looks like they went under. I looked at safes at Dick's and for what you pay to get a decent safe, not a sheet metal box, might as well go to Gander. I didn't know Farm and Fleet had much in gun safes, must have missed it when I was there. I am heading to Cabela's next week to check prices, see if they have anything on sale. |

Are you sure about this? I was always told that Mills and Blain WERE brothers that started a farm store but they had a falling out so they each opened their own store with different yet similar names. I could be wrong but one thing is for sure, If you can't get it at Fleet Farm or Farm and Fleet you don't need it! |
|
This is swinging off topic for the Farm & Fleet, Fleet & Farm thing but I've always wondered that myself. Everyone always says the the two are totally different, but the fact of the matter is:
-They have very similar names -Same store format -Same store colors/logo -generally all same merchandise, prices & brands and they seem to respect each other's territory and therefore don't seem to compete. I've never seen a Mill's and a Blain in the same town like Shopko's, Target's and Walmarts all seem to huddle next to each other....there has to be some continued connection there. |
|
I was in the Gander in Onalaska the other week and had a run-in with their crazy policies.
They had WWB 9mm stacked like cordwood behind the counter, no price. Ask how much it was, $39.99 for the 100rd bulk packs, 2x the price of Walmart that I had just cleared out of 9mm bulk packs 5 minutes ago. I ask if they will price match Walmarts prices today. Idiot behind the counter says "Only in-stock items." Fair enough, I have a reciept from Walmart dated 5 minutes prior that showed these items were in stock until I cleared them out. No dice, gotta be in stock right now. So the plan for next time is *if* Wally World has the 9mm bulk packs in stock, have my friend sit there with a few in his hand *not checked out yet so still "in stock" according to the computer* then run to Gander, get as many as I can from them on a price match, and then seal the deal at Wal-Mart. |

Haha, the last time I tried to price match at the onalaska store they made me call up to scheels with my cell phone, while standing at the sales counter.
Hand the phone to the gander cashier so the scheels salesman could tell her the price. And then she said they would only let me price match one box. I thanked the guy from scheels, and walked out of gander empty handed. All I could think was WTF? Is it that hard to make a customer happy...?

Try Menards for a Liberty gun safe. You might have to order one, but delivery is pretty quick. If you have a truck or trailer, Menards will load it for you. If you don't, Menards will deliver it (for a fee). That's the way Menards in Rhinelander does it.... YMMV. Mills Fleet Farm used to have some decent safes (made by Cannon), but a few years ago, they started stocking "Stack On" brand only. I've been a full time safe-tech for 23 years, and I wouldn't trade one decent Liberty or Cannon for 5 of those POS Stack On safes. I bought my Cannon at Fleet Farm, in Antigo... about 4-5 years ago. They were "on sale" at the time ($599) and that was cheaper than my wholesale cost for the same model. I bought the last 3 they had in stock... kept one for myself, and sold the other 2, within a day of hauling them home on my 4 place snowmobile trailer. I got $150 ea more than I paid for them, but I delivered them to the buyers' driveways (both were within a few miles of my home near Eagle River). |
|
If you purchase anything from Menards, especially in Rhinelander, make sure you're WATCHING THEM LOAD IT. I used to work there and they don't treat peoples stuff with care when you're not around. They also are criminal, the last GM of the store got a guy on the roof during winter and forced him to forgo certain safety warnings and he fell off the roof and broke his back.
Menards is a joke. |

completely empty ammo shelves even at Walmart is a bit depressing.
Amen to that! Quite hoarding people, we are experiencing a self fullfilling prophecy. We think ammo's in short supply, so we start a buying frenzy, pretty soon ammo's really in short supply and we get even more desperate. Gander, with their higher prices and quantity limits, will end up being the only place with ammo in stock. |

In the 1940s, the Mills family created Standard Parts Company which later bacame NAPA Auto Parts. In 1955 Stuart C Mills SR and his sons Stuart C Mills Jr and Henry C Mills II founded Fleet Wholesale Supply in Marshfield. In 1960 they changed the name to Mills Fleet Farm. The brothers W.C. (Claude) Blain and N.B. (Bert) Blain founded Blain's Farm and Fleet stores coincidentally also in 1955. |

I was at the Wausau Gander last night. There were no signs limiting ammo amounts. I even asked about it at the check-out, and the two young guys behind the service counter were baffled. They didn't know anything about any ammo limits... so it must be a store by store thing.
They had plenty of everything in stock, no bare shelves. I bought some powder ($24.99 per lb for Reloader 15 and ACCU 2230... didn't have any H335 left, which is what I wanted). Ammo was high priced as usual... with one exception that totally baffles me. I'm a die-hard duck & goose hunter, and I've been using Federal Black Cloud the past 2 seasons with great results. Walmart (Rhinelander & Minocqua) & Fleet Farm (Wausau & Antigo) both carry Black Cloud, at $21.95 per box of 25, for 3" in BB, BBB, #2, #3. At Gander, last night, that same ammo was $17.95 (not a "sale" neither). WTF? Their other ammo was way over-priced, yet Black Cloud is $4 per box (about 20-25%) cheaper than every other place I've seen it. ???? |

I complain to my manager about the ammunition prices all the time. He can't do anything about them. Its expensive even with my discount. Do me a favor.... DON"T mention that their Black Cloud is cheaper than everybody else. OK? If they knew, they'd probably jack it up to $29.95. I spent $50 on powder, and didn't have enough cash with me to "stock up" on the Black Cloud too. |

Just got back from Cabelas in Richfield. First time to that store. No primers. Limited bullet selection. My powder was out. But I got a great deal on a scale. Needed one! And a few bullets. ZERO limits on how many boxes of shells to get. And I had a great bison burger. YUMMY! |
