I'm in the mood for a road trip. What are some of the state's outstanding gun stores?

| Depends what you're in the 'mood' for, and how far you're looking to drive. MIdwestern in Lomira, and Precision Sport in Oshkosh would be on my list. Me, personally, I'm gonna check out The AMmo Box in Sun Prairie this weekend. Word is that they have a FN FNP-45. |

Nice Thread and great idea!
I am looking forward to seeing all the responses! If the responses could include the 'specialty' of the shop they are mentioning, that would be awesome! i.e. I love military, tactical type guns.... BTW, saw the Sports Illustrated Top 10 Super Heroes of Super Bowls and of course Desmond Howard was one of them. Does that Kick Off Return for a TD rank as one of the greatest moments in Packer History or what?!!! Wonder how long before we are back there..... Go Pack! |

Any Gander Mountain? ![]() I was actually just going to say Cabela's but I'd better clarify.... Cabela's is my favorite gun store but not that I actually buy any guns or ammo there. I just like seeing that many guns in 1 place plus their gun vault has some really cool (and expensive) guns that you just can't see at other places. My daughter loves the aquarium so she stays entertained as well. My wife and I use the Cabela's Visa card (very high rate which is nice because we HAVE to pay if off every month) so I get points and special offers in the mail. If I do buy something there, I have a $20-40 off coupon and I use my points. We usually put $20-30k on the card each year so I don't mind $200-300 in free stuff. Midwestern is my favorite gun store for actually purchasing guns and shooting. Case in point. Ruger 10/22 SS with synthetic stock: Cabela's $269.99 Dicks $249.99 Midwestern $229.99 plus they gave me an hour of free range time. |

Because he has some good prices on some things. Been looking for a S&W lower to complete a S&W build. $149 for S&W M&P15 lowers (3left). LPK's for $65 (one left). Picked up some 223 brass just now for a steel! cleaned him out of 223, decent prices on Win primers. he has a nice used Bushmaster XM for about $700. Don't get me wrong, some of his stuff is still high. Just have to look for a deal. They're there. I hate giving away my good finds but I've been told since kindergarten I have to share... ![]() Other "shops" I enjoy are PT firearms in Cross Plains. Decent guys, good deals. Don't laugh, but Gander in Madison. Stay away from the shelves, but ask Tom what's in back. I enjoy applying Duracoat (for myself) and have picked up half a dozen really nice shooters there for next to nothing. Picked up a G19 used (like new) there this week for under $500. Had $100 add-on adjustable sights too. But my favorite shop is Flamethrower, he get's me TONS of neat stuff. For a great price! He'll order whatever you want. Oh, an FYI. I've been told by several people that Streichers in Milwaukee won't have Glock Day anymore, because of issues with the .gov (not paying federal excise tax?) Stopped there this week and talked to the owner, he laughed! There WILL be a Glock Day this June or July. All Glocks at cost. One day only. And HUGE deals on other stuff. |

Moe's in Black River Falls has always treated me well. Just be aware you may want to call and ask if they have what you want... lots of the good stuff is packed away in the vault...not on the shelf. Normally, the shelves have the more common rifles, shotguns, pistols, etc. If you're looking for a higher end rifle or sho gun... they are normally out of sight.
Scheels in Appleton has been good to me too. They'll normally match a confirmable Midwestern price and save you some driving if you're not going to Lomira. Midwestern's good if you're going that way. They have a couple of guys that know their stuff...and some others who don't. Never a big deal to me as when I'm looking, I normally know more about what I want than the sales people. I've been to Tew's Tews...or however it's written. Good deals on shotgun shells some times (when they are stocked ahead of a price increase). Haven't had any luck with their selection of guns and pistols, though. I haven't bought any guns from Precision...but my friends have. We've found some good deals. You may also find guns there no one else has yet. I've been in Cabelas....and while it's neat to look...their prices are never competitive. (And I always get ticked because for the size of the place...the one thing I want out of the catalog isn't something they stock :) |

Quoted: What's the deal with Streichers? Do they sell to the publilc? They will sell to the public. But they have two prices. One for LEO and one for the public. (on guns) they had a TON of gun trade-ins from Milw county a while back. 870's galore! I missed it. They had two mossberg pump shotguns left for $100 each. VERY rough shape though. But if you duracoat you could have them looking awesome! I did pick up a few G19 mags for $27 each. |
