But don't want that to happen without being able to obtain my CCW and I want Doyle gone before I come back... Since we know that won't happen with all the libs in the state, I guess I won't be coming back... Always wondered how a huge sportsmen's state gets taken over by a bunch of libs...you know this stuff never sits well with Missouri...they actually vote your ass out when you are stupid towards gun owners and hunters... ![]() /rant off |
VERY easy. All you need to do is have Milwaukee and Madison vote for you and there really isn't enough people in the rest of the state to make a difference. Throw in some influence peddling, bribery, election fraud (Milwaukee) and there you have it. However, the day Doyle is dumped and we get a conservative governor, I will have a party. |
Amen, to that. I was really hoping M. Green would take it. From what I understood, he was for CCW and there was alot of support for him. Maybe not enough voters turned up to vote for him, this last round. Also it seems the State's Assembly passes CCW almost every year, but gets vetoed by Doyle everytime. Gosh, I hate that guy! |

Doyle's re-election was the result of a couple of things. One was the national backlash against Republicans in general. Another was the WI Republicans stupid idea to put the gay marriage amendment on the ballot. They thought it would increase conservative voter turnout. The correct idea is not to try to increase conservative voter turnout, but rather keep Democrat turnout low, especially in an off-year election. Instead of increasing conservative turnout, the gay marriage amendment brought out people who otherwise probably wouldn't have voted: socially conservative Democrats who voted for the ban on gay marriage and then voted Democrat, and college students opposed to the gay marriage amendment. Even with the above issues, I don't know that Mark Green could have won. He was trailing by a couple of points all year, which is a bad sign. He also was outspent by Doyle by 25%. That's a ton of money. Green shouldn't have fought over the money from his congressional campaign, and should have just said he wouldn't use it. That gave Doyle the opportunity to paint Green as somehow corrupt, and deflect attention from the dozens of scandals surrounding Doyle's own campaign. If a Republican wins as governor in 2010, I'm certain we'll be getting our CCW permits. |

Glockface, two years ago a state senator whose name we would all recognize called me to talk about the CCW bill. In the course of the conversation, I mentioned that my wife and I have wanted to move to the Deep South for several years, and that I'm doing the best I can to make that happen. The senator said, "Dick Baker! I can't believe you're talking about leaving Wisconsin!" "Why not," I asked. He said, "because my wife and I are talking about the same thing. We're sick of the taxes, the weather, and the politics." I replied, "that's great. One of the most senior members of the Wisconsin state legislature wants to leave the state because it sucks. What does that tell the rest of us?" |
| Interesting comments guys. I left the state in 2002, after 6 years & 6 months in the military (all overseas). I came back and started looking for a job in IT. I couldn't find any in WI, but Des Moines had tons. So I moved and took my GF with me. Now its been 5 years and I necessarily don't love Iowa but since I have my CCW (and pheasant hunting - WI is far-wish for that), it has become a large part of my life. Our family is back in the fox valley area and I still go back for family visiting, some hunting and salmon fishing (my fave!) but I still can't find the job openings in WI statewide that I can find in one city in IA, with half the population. So for me it's still a battle but Doyle does make it easy for me to stay here currently. Add CCW, lower taxes and a conservative governor and Assembly, you will make it very hard for me to stay here in IA. |
