My name is Ray. I am a USAF weapons (CATM) and tactics instructor here at nellis AFB (Las vegas ) NV.

I am retiring to the Green Lake (where my spouse Robin is from) area (20 years service 01 Jul 2008).  I will be buying a house in the spring up there.

I guess I just wanted to set up a rapport and ask for answers to probably simple questions that I have had a long time searching but simply cannot find.

Believe me it took forever to find out you must have a front and rear plate on a passenger car and 50/35% on window tint...

I am a USAF gunsmith and cop by original trade, but went to specialized tactics training in 1998 when I left Minot AFB and arrived here.

I hope to help you all as much as I can and can't wait to be a Civie again!

Outside of another tour in Iraq or Afghanistan, I should be living there before summer of 2008.

I own a couple of M16s (one in M4 configuration) Gemtech 9mm Raptor and an M4-96D.

I also own a dozen or so ARs, 8 Glocks, some seecamps, S&W pocket revolvers,  Benellis and HK P7 series guns.

So first question...I have a CCW for ND, UT, FL and NV (I am a certified CCW instructotr as well) how do I get a WI CCW?

Thanks

Welcome to WI!  Green Lake is a nice area.  I'm not too far away.

You don't.  WI is one of 2 states left that does not allow concealed carry.

Hiya Ray.  Kevin is correct on the no CCW.  The rest of your toys are OK though.  I'm not exactly sure where Green Lake is, but as long as it's not in Dane or Milwaukee counties, life shoud be good.  Be prepared for higher taxes on property, etc.  Sales tax is 5%, and fuel is a little more pricier than some other states.

That is USAT on the CCW deal.

No offense but WI already has a -1 with me for the CCW issue, damn!

I already own a couple of buildings and 6+ Acres we inherited when her mom was murdered by her Step father.  $3000 in taxes per year.

GL is near Ripon (25 minutes - your speed) SW of Oshkosh.

2003 2500 Dodge Ram Cummins (Diesel) and a 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder (unleaded).

We'll be pulling $3000 per month retirement. 9 year old girl and 12 year old boy.

I am concerned about a job though.  I have numerous job availability with my skills and TS/SCI clearance everywhere except middle america.

I know I do not want to do the gun thing as a owner/proprieter business unless I have to.  I guess I can milk some owed favors in the gun community and look at being a rep for someone like HK in the region...  I am open to ideas.

I will also sell my M16A1 for a pontoon boat (my retirement gift to myself)  when I land and get the NFA registered for a face to face sale (will save $200 fee and dealer fees to the buyer)...

OK, SE of Fox Valley... What kind of work do you like to do?  Plenty of job opportunties in that area, from State employment to local gunstore (if you're into that kinda thing).  If you wanna go back into LE, one of the dept's was hiring a few months back in that area, so that may be an opportunity.  Be aware that  a lot of WI LE depts require degree's, even with prior Civ. LE exp.

The last thing I want to do is cop work again, corrections, etc.

I will look around this fall.

Thanks on the leads...

I doubt you'll have trouble finding a job in that area, there is lots of industry within a 1/2 hour drive.

There is also no shortages of lakes and flowages that you could use that boat on, great place to semi-retire if you like outdoors recreation.

As others have stated no CCW, we've been working on it. The bills have passed with a very good following but the douche bag governor veto's them every time.

Property tax is higher, sales tax iirc is lower @ 5%. My parents spend a couple of months in vegas over the winter and fuel prices have been pretty close when I chat with them.

Get a block heater installed for the diesel, you'll get a couple of cold days in the winter where it might not want to start. Have you lived in a place with a winter climate before? Have your kids?

Darn tootin!

i've seen -35 or so up here without winchill.

You're not goiing to find many nice ranges like the Minot gun range, but there's still plenty of good ones in WI.

I'm orginally from an area about 15 miles south of Fond Du Lac (affectionately referred to as Fondle My Sac) It's a nice area.

I'd like to move back there eventually. But ND is really growing on me.

If your into IPSC or IDPA pistol matches, Ripon is a state hot spot for that stuff.

Here is the web site of Ripon Club:  http://www.ripongunclub.com/

IDPA, Cowboy SASS, USPSA/IPSC on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Saturdays. I try my best to get out to the IDPA and USPSA shoots.

They also have trap and rifle ranges there.

As was said before, CCW is still being worked on. We'll need to get rid of our Gov. Doyle before that can happen... unless we get lucky with a Supreme Court caseArt
