If it aint snowing/sleeting/raining, you aint training!

Photoman and I were there at 11:30, but Rouge was there quite a bit earlier.  We satyed around to 1:00.

A total of two rounds of 12 Gauge ammunition were expended, and the rest of the time was spent cuddling for warmth.

I would have loved to had the day off, just to bring my AR and see how it handles the cold and snow

Most folks would have keyed on the "cuddling" comment.

Nothing went wrong at all.  It's just that my slug (blue circle) was off by >6" at 30' - because the wind was blowing hard enough to move my aim that much with each gust.  The 2 3/4*" #00 Mag (red circles) patterned okay:

ETA: I just ran down to the range to function check the 870.  If it were nicer, I would have been shooting birdshot on steel, but with the weather we were having, it just wasn't going to work.

*Fixed the math for you detail-oriented guys.

Alright, tough guy.  YOU try shooting in 45 MPH gusts of freezing rain and slush off of lake Michigan, and get back to me how you do!

PS: Use of your pimp hand is not allowed.

ETA: Note, at least I actually went out and shot.  Photoman and Rouge stayed in the trailer the whole time.

fmd, what's a 2-3/3" shell?   And since when is that a magnum?  That must be some kind of european design.  But I probably just spelled european wrong so you got me there.

An 870, ha? I'm trying to overhaul a Mossberg 500 right now for up close and personal work.  Can't figure out if I should have them chop the barrel I got, or just get a new 18.5 barrel.  The one I got has Iron sights on it and it's 24".  I thought maybe I could cut it down to like 19" and have them resolder on the front sight.  Then I'd still have iron sights instead of just a bead.  What ya think?

A 2 3/3" is secret code for math majors, equating to 3"

Actually, 3/3 would = 1, so 2-3/3" would be 2" + 3/3" = 3", which would be a magnum!

Always like to hear about people's new toys.  I just picked up an AK myself.  Now I just need to get out and sight it in.

ETA: Dang!  Mpx beat me to it!

Wow you guys are anal!

Two and three-quarter inch shells.

FWIW: Magnum refers to the number of projectiles, not the "power" or size of the hull. Common misconception, but a misconception just the same.

I shot a Remington 2&3/4" Magnum #00 buck, loaded with 12 pellets (as opposed to the 9 that a non-mag would have).

ETA: JJ, I've got an 18.5" barrel with a nasty chewed-up bead sight.  I got rid of my rifle sighted barrel in exchange, and am going to be putting an XS Big Dot or Trijicon bead on in its place.  I don't want anything but a big white/glowing bead to put on a BG at oh-dark-thirty (I'm blind without my glasses or contacts).

Um....
trust, form1, 14in barrel, Eo-thingy & ghost ring sights, surefire light forend.

Are you saying you got more balls than I do?    Oh, you did say pellets.  OK, so you got me on the magnum thing.  But flamethrower did catch your quote before you changed it.

I like your plan about the sight, I've thought about that too.  But if I kept the iron sight, it would probably make shooting slugs a little more accurate.

Or I could do like photoman, said, get an optic a surefire foreend with a light and drop like $ 700 into this POS.  I really didn't want to do that.  I was trying to go with the kiss principle.  Although I admit, I didn't have a plan for a light, other than bolting one to the barrel.

Here it is:

I was planning on painting everything OD, like I did that trigger group.  I cut the stock down like 5/8", it always seemed very long.  I sanded too, obviously.  So I was thinking of getting an aftermarket forend.  But just a cheapie, combat type one.  Hogue makes one that seems decent.  Or if I could get my hands on a 590 one.  And possibly change the safety out to a metal one.

You got pics of yours?

I got plenty of WWB. Well probably not plenty enough for what I think you're talking about.  But I doubt I'll be there.  Thanks for the offer though.  So who's shooting full auto?

Sorry JJ, no pics right now.

Also, if any club members are reading this: Someone bring a CAR Stock wrench to the meeting /NFA shoot tomorrow.  I gotta get the stock off an AR for Parrothead, and I cant remember where my armorer's tool is (or who I lent it to).

Just use a punch and a hammer.  If you're real careful not to bung up the threads, it works fine.  It's pretty hard to not get into em just a little though.  Don't ask me how I know.

I know I returned it to you at one of the black powder shoots last summer; any chance it may still be wrapped in that bag in your jeep??
