I did my good deed for the week yesterday!  I took my mom to Hansen's for dinner when on the way home I came across an injured hawk in the middle of the road.  I was going down Taylor St. in G.B. when I realized there was something very big right in front of me in my lane.  I slammed on the brakes and almost got rear ended.  I pulled off to the side because I knew it was an animal but I didn't know if it was dead or not.

To my surprise it was alive!  I directed traffic around it while I thought about what I was going to do.  I remembered I had a pair of leather work gloves in the truck so I grabbed them and figured I would try to get it out of the middle of the road.  Taylor is a very buisy street and someone would have surely hit it if I didn't do something!

I slowly walked up to this beautiful bird to see what it would do.  It never moved!  I thought it must have got hit by a car but there was no sign of blood or anything but it looked like it might have been really sick.  I reached out thinking the bird would move but it didn't so I gently grabbed it around the body and picked it up.  I started walking with the bird when I thought to myself this thing could fuck me up at any time!!!  To my surprise the bird stayed calm and I set it down in the front yard of a house.

Someone pulled up in a car and said they called the DNR and they will be there shortly.  I stayed with the hawk to make sure it didn't wander back into the road.  I sat there for about 15 min when all of a sudden the hawk flew off!  I figured I did all I could and went home.  I don't know if the DNR ever showed up.

I felt really good about what I did.  I guess it was a red tailed hawk and I'm not good at guessing weights but I bet it was atleast 10lbs with a 4-5 foot wingspan.  I'm kicking myself for not having my cell phone that has a camera on it.  It feels good to save the life of a beautiful animal instead of taking one while hunting!

Well thats all.  Just wanted to share my feel good story!

That was certainly nice of you. I bet the hawk appreciates getting a second chance.

I enjoy seeing hawks in the wild, but not when they are in my chicken run eating lunch.

Thats awesome.

The hawk probably got its bell rung, flying into a car.

Good job.
