Anybody in WI able to build an AK? Nothing fancy, just remove the rivets and put it back on a new receiver. No need to refinish. No screw or U-drive builts.
Help me out.

I'm pretty sure we solicited something like a small AK build party before but nothing came of it. I do not own a AK but I always wanted to try building one for myself. I'll hit the Waukesha show for the parts if we could pull something together.

Hell, maybe I should just buy the parts anyway for a rainy day

Well I've got a 12T press and a set of reciever bending dies I made. I also have a bolt cutter squeezer I made, but I'm not too happy with it (it works but...). I used a rivet gun to put the trigger guard on though, the rivets look kind of goofy. I also have a couple bags of U-drive rivets.

Not much room for a party though, but these things are easy to transport.

I do have a couple of AK's that need to be built, one folder (which is missing a pin or 2), and another romanian AK. I was going to do the folder with Udrive and set rivets, and the romy with all U's, I think.

Depending on where and when I would like to attend a AK build party sometime. I have never seen one apart and think it would intresting.

That is if you guys don't mind someone standing around asking lots of stupid questions.

I've built a few, I own a drill press, mig welder, rivet tool and enough steel to make a few more jigs if necessary.    I have access to a 30 ton press,  but would buy my own for a party.  I'm in Waukesha county,  if you need help or need someone to host a party I would be in for sure.

I would like to attend as well. Maybe if this does not happen for a bit I may be able to squirrel away a little money for a cheap build myself. I hear they can be made for under $200.

I just kicked around the idea at my work and 3 guys are in.  A legal AK can be made for roughly 175.  I would be looking at Feb. at the soonest,  I think I could do some larger quantity buys on kits, flats and US parts to resell if needed.  Let me know guys.

I would certainly be up for a build party as well.

I have an AK Builder flat bending jig, rivet jig, etc. I also have a 20 ton press at work.

I also am in Waukesha Co, and have been wanting to build an AK or 2, but haven't felt the most confident about doing it. A build party would be great.

I own a couple of AK's but have never built one. I would love to try it out. I live in Milwaukee but I would travel for a build party. I could bring some flats and a case or two of beer.

This is something I would be interested in attending.  I have built a dozen or so AKs in the past couple years and I still have a couple of flats that I bent up before I got rid of my flat bending jig.  Maybe Santa will give me some money so that I can build a couple more AKs in the near future.  A modified spot welder would be very handy if somebody has one.

On my AK I used a mig welder to weld the rails.  I drilled a pilot hole in the reciever and welded the rails through it.  After you grind down the weld it looks like nothing was ever there.

On all of my AKs I used a stick welder.  The only reason I used a stick welder is because I was told that it couldn't be done with a stick welder.  A spot welder is easier to use and leaves a more "authentic" look to the receiver.  Not only that, but my last AK I built, I burned through the receiver.

Yes I agree with you, the spot welder is very user friendly.  And the result is AK-worthy.  Just need to find a WI-ian with one.

I bought a spot welder after MIG welding my first AK, but haven't used it yet. I did modify it to fit in the reciever though.

I didn't get a good weld with the MIG.

As I mentioned, I do have a 12 press, and its relatively portable if needed.

I have built one and have a few more to build along with a buddy of mine. I have a bending jig I can bring along, just gotta get it back from a range buddy.

If someone has a rivit jig and can bring a spot welder it would make things a bunch easier.

Rivet jig, Hah! use a punch and hammer like a real man....ya a rivet jig would be good too.  It sure sounds like all of us have the tools necessary, now its just a matter of do I wan't to invite all you to my house?? Background checks anyone?

I haven't met a bad arfcom'er yet, no worries.

Hello all:
This is my second post the first one is in where is everyone located.
anyway i also would like to be in on the build party. I have the polish
underfolder kit from a couple years back, and picked up a unfinished
receiver at wauk. gun show in the beginning of the year. If the party will be close
around waukesha I sure would be interested.

I know why you really want to come. You just want to throw everyones AK 30' in the air to see if it will hold together.

I'd love to attend if only to see how everything goes together. If it's not for a month or more i'll probably pony up the cash to build myself one too but I just dropped an ass load of green on my M14 build.

So, what kind are we building?

I think I own most variations in case anyone wants a hands on before beginning.  I suggest avoid building any krinkovs or RPK versions for your first build.  I hear they can be quite a bitch to build.  The latches on 74s are another challenge and would need to be slightly researched.

I usually leave the building to the experts, but have been acquiring tools to get the job done lately.  I have everything for parkerizing, & spraying gunkoate, Moly resin, etc.

Located in Waukesha county as well.  Would love to come or bring anything that you may need.

Oh yea, the bad part - These need to be 922r compliant.  That Means 6 US parts my friends. FCG (3) US receiver (1), Piston (1), US Furniture can add up to (3), Slant Brake (1), Floor Plates(1), Followers(1)..I don't think I missed any.
