I have a family member that lives outside Denver. Given the current derp in assault rifle bans, mag issues, etc, is there a good LGS that I can send him to where he could purchase a non adulterated AR 15 in the GREATER Denver area?

I realize the mag ban is state wide, but Im just concerned with the rifle at present. Who would you guys go to?

He is not a stranger to shooting, but this would be his first AR purchase.

Bowers Tactical has a couple on the wall, can't remember the price, Ark Tactical off Kipling and 285, The Bullseye in Aurora, Colorado Mountain Sales in Denver, and that's just all off the top of my head.

the usual misconceptions from OOS folks who are not aware of CO laws.   Which a quick search would clarify.

.OR misinformation to his relative from some fudd, who still stands in line a walmart to get the $15 per box of 22 mark up next gun show.

There are no neutered rifles...the only thing that has changed is:

1) Dealer will pull mag(s) if over 15 rounds and replace it with a 15 round or, less capacity mag(s)

2) Dealer will modify mag(s) to only accept 15 rounds

Which is why Im asking you good people.

My relative heard there is a "assault rifle ban"

A quick search on my end revealed that there is supposedly a "ban" in Denver only. So it doesnt really clarify anything.
But where I am, Madison WI still has a ban on the books, and it has no bearing on anything.

Thanks for the info guys. I just want to send him to someone who isnt a moron LGS.

The "ban" in Denver only prohibits magazines > 20 rounds period.  .22LR (I think the language says .22 rimfire, but you may want to look at it for yourself) mags and non-residents passing through are exempt.  State ban still applies to mags not possessed before 7/1/13.  Language in the state ban does not specify where the mags were possessed - simply that they were.

I'm not endorsing any of these, but just to give some more: centennial gun club, od green supply, cabelas, dcf guns.....there are more but my brain just shut down.....oh, firing line in aurora. .........anyway, I would order online and have it sent to the store.....prices have come down and in my experience I don't see that reflected at the stores.

Can you post the reference to the laws you are citing in reference to exemptions for .22  rimfire, and a 20 rd mag limit.  I never heard the exemption aspect and was under the belief it was a 15 rd limit.

while many dislike it (see Jim's post above) 5280 is going to have the single largest supply of black rifles at any one place in metro denver.
they have a cash and credit price, so if you know you're buying, bring cash.
some people love them, some hate them.  i'm ambivalent but thought i'd let you know.  i've never bought anything there.
