Yes, retards, rednecks and wanna-be gangbangers got the site closed down.  It was a disaster up there.

I remember when they closed it a few years ago.  All we did was drive another 100yds up the road, park, hike into the woods, found a good spot with good backdrop, and blast away.

As long as you're in the National Forest, and follow all the rules, you're good to go.

But make sure you know the rules very well, as we were questioned by two armed Forest Rangers on our way back to our vehicles.

Rules:
very long link, hope it works

ETA: Make sure you're in the correct spot, North of the road, etc.
eta2: fixed typo above

hey thanks for the advice and the link. I might skip out on tomorrow if I can't find a good known spot since I'm new to the area and just going up by myself. I'm also getting a gun case in the mail tomorrow so I should at least use that. if anyone knows any spots feel free to
share. thanks for the info

The short slot canyon just beyond the 4x4 trail entrance was shut down years ago however I highly doubt that the other area up the jeep road (directions to which are in the video below) is closed.

If you are familiar with how to get to lefthand from Boulder you can skip far into the video to where the right turn is on to the dirt access road.  Let us know if it is closed once again I doubt it.

Skip to about 11:30 in the video if you know where the trail head is.

oh so that area at the very end where you see someone shooting is not considered left hand? what was the original area in the video? maybe where that first sign said no shooting? thanks

To answer your question yes its lefthand but there used to be a separate place to shoot up there.
There was a slot canyon just up the paved road past where the 4x4 access road is that area was a shooting area that was closer to the main paved road.  It was closed down years ago.  If you do any off roading the dirt road trail head is what is considered lefthand canyon.  If you travel up that road a bit as seen in the video there is a shooting area that used to be accessible by vehicle now you have to walk in to it a bit.  That is the area I have always referred to as the lefthand canyon shooting area as I was never aware of the other spot til it was closed down.

hey guys I went to lefthand and everything seemed open. There must have been 30 people there shooting. It was pretty fun taking the girl out there and shooting the ar for the first time. Only thing I would have wanted was some more yardage to stretch the gun out a little further. There were a lot of handguns
