Hello, the recent power outages (all of my neighbors) have made me realize that I don't have any good backup heat plan in this new house.. in my old house I had a propane heater that worked a couple times in a pinch but was probably pretty dangerous and did nothing but heat..

This time I would like to get a transfer switch installed so that I can run a ~5000 watt gasoline generator to run the furnace electronics, some lights, possibly the fridge if a summer outage, etc.

So I am wondering if there is anyone local that you would recommend to install the transfer switch and possibly source a generator?? I have a couple old generators but they are pretty small and I don't trust them to run much of anything for very long..

I don't really have the time or experience to play around with installing stuff in the main panel, so I'm looking for someone who knows what they are doing regarding these systems..

I am in Loveland.. thanks for any advice!

I have a guy that did mine when I had the service panel replaced, but it was a neighbors relative and I won't recommend him out.  I will say that to have a professional do it is the smart way to go.

you need a licensed electrician to do it
it was about $1500 for mine, but that included a new panel and the permit (the old one didn't have enough room)
PM me if you want and i can give you a good electrician in loveland.

northern tools was the cheapest on generators a few years back.

and yeah, last year when the power went off and it was 0 degrees out

I was the only house in the neighborhood not freezing, lights on, etc

and well armed.
