It will be my first time doing this.  I missed the primaries so I need some info.

We had Voter Cards in VA that told you exactly where you voted.  How do I know where to vote in Colorado?

Also, the wife (still) doesn't have a Colorado ID.  Is she eligible to vote?

Thanks,

_MaH

Have you registered to vote?  If you have you would have gotten a voter ID card with that information.

In Colorado, we are moving to mail-in ballots.

I have a place in Colorado but have not lived there is 11 years. No your wife can't vote in CO without a CO drivers license. That is because your DL is the start of your official residence in CO.
Your living in one of the BEST and MOST BEAUTIFUL states in the US. The most pretty in the Rocky Mt. chain, especially if you rock climb. Enjoy the new playgrond you have moved to.

I'd say to call the county clerk's office first thing Monday.

I don't recall getting a voter ID card, but I very vividly remember being asked at the DMV in Colorado Springs (that everyone in the city has to go to for obtaining a Colorado DL):

"Do you want to vote?"

"YES"

"Are you a Republican or Democrat?"

"I hate them both unequally."

"We'll mark you as an 'Independent'."

I might have gotten a card, but it doesn't really matter here.  They mail out the ballots, so I don't have to show my card to anyone.

Today was the last day to register to vote in the General Election this November.

If you were registered as independent, you wouldn't have gotten to partake in the primaries.   It sounds like you're already registered.

Thanks for that.  Just definitely verified I'm registered to vote.  Also learned where I go to vote!

Interesting to learn that I'm unable to vote in primaries if I'm "Unaffiliated" (that's what the record I just pulled up states).  Guess this is just another difference between here at VA I need to get used to.  Back there, you showed up and voted either the Democrat primary, or the Republican - no party affiliation in VA and you just said which one you wanted to vote.  Left the door wide open to the kind of sabotage that, I'm convinced, resulted in McCain as the nominee back in 2008 - Democrats showing up in droves and voting the Republican ballot.

Yep, no affiliation means no primaries.  (Also, way less phone calls...)

I would ensure you're signed up to "vote by mail" and they'll send you a ballot in the next few weeks so you can research what's best for El Paso CTY and never stand in line... No need to mail as they have various secure drop off points.

Matt, we're glad to have your family here!   Every little bit helps fend off the "invasion" CO has suffered...

Nebr. also issued a voter registration card.

But when you get the application for a mail in ballot there's all the info you need on one flap. I tore it off and shredded the rest. I'm old fashioned I guess. I like to stand in the booth.

If you are already registered to vote, you should get a card in the mail telling you where your designated polling place is.  That same card should notify you that if you are on permanent mail-in status, you will receive your ballot 22-18 before the election takes place (yes, those specific numbers were used).  This may not be the case for you if this is your first time voting in Colorado.

If you don't get the card in the mail, I'd say the first place to start is to check your county clerk's website and find out if there's a specific polling place for you to go to.  Alternately, you can fill out a provisional ballot and you will have to verify who you are.  It's no big deal; they pretty much just check your ID and will verify your signature sometime later against the signature you originally provided when you registered to vote (My wife voted for the first time last year and had to go back and provide some more signatures when the election judges decided her signature didn't match her original).  You can complete a provisional ballot at the county clerk's office or the DMV closest to where you live.  There's some other places, including the local polling places, where you can complete a provisional ballot, but I can't remember what the rest are.  I think that the provisional ballots are counted last in an election, so if including the provisional ballots won't make a difference in a given vote, they won't bother to count them.

It's been a long time since I used a provisional ballot, but I know they will have all the statewide things to vote on.  I can't remember if they include the local issues.

As far as your wife not having a Colorado ID, I'm not sure how that works.  The key will be whether she has already registered to vote.  If the deadline has not arrived yet, it is very fast approaching is today as has already been stated.  Contact the county clerk to find out if she's already registered and GTG.  She's likely going to have to provide proof of who she is and possibly her eligibility to vote.  The beaurocrats are so hyper sensitive to the possibility of denying an elligible voter their right, that I've heard sometimes they'll allow a voter to complete a provisional ballot with a elecrtic bill as proof of residency.

Hope some of this has helped.
