Hi all,

I need help selecting a school for my 4 year old to begin attending next year, and I need to have an idea what K-12 school to put him in.  I am somewhat a fan of Montessori and Charlotte Mason type education, but really I am looking for something hands on that teaches life skills and emphasizes parental involvement.

I think that an 18 year old boy should know how to keep a set of books, read a contract, weld, shoot a rifle and pistol, handle tools competently, fix a car, write some rudimentary computer code, invest his money wisely, recite Shakespeare, know his history and have a moral compass that is not easily swayed.  In other words, real American values, shop classes, and skills that will actually help him in the world.

I realize that a huge - if not the majority - involvement of his father is needed, and I eagerly await that.  But I need a school that will not put him amongst the lowest common denominator.

I realize this will be a private school.  For now let's leave cost out of it, I just want to know what the best schools in this area are.

My oldest attended Bacon Elementary from kindergarten through 5th and is now at Preston Middle School.  My youngest has been at Bacon from kindergarten to 3rd so far.  Been very happy with both schools and all the teachers.  Especially happy with Preston.

My daughter goes to Ridgeview Classical School. It is a K-12 charter school. We have been very happy.
