What do you have to do to become a COHTF member? I have been lurker in Denver for a while but never attended any events. I'll grant you COHTF Member status in a minute....you're now approved for the COHTF. [/joking around] COHTF just means COlorado HomeTown Forum member. Since you live here in CO, you're automatically one. We're planning a shoot (either May 2nd or May 9th, someone still has to decide). It'd be great to have you out there. It's going to be up north near the CO/ WY border. -SleeperShooter |

I'll keep tabs on these threads to see what, if anything, needs to be supplied for a shoot I can attend. _MaH |

Sorry guys,I've been out of town and away from a computer since last Wed, or that other post would have been updated sooner. I am all for the 2nd. There is no reason to not make this the official thread. I can bring a folding table, maybe two(6 foot kind). I have a few chairs also. I can bring a half dozen garbage bags also. Anyone have a portable grill? I have a little one, but it would take forever to cook for a group. Just a thought for some of you guys down south. Maybe try to do a Southern shoot at the end of the month. Maybe Memorial Day weekend? That could be good to. I like shooting a lot in the spring and early summer, not too hot. ETA-I will bring some of those cardboard cutout targets that I have left. |
|
I have firearms, ammo, and protective gear –– no targets.
Not knowing what the Pawnee area looks like, or what the weather looks like (near Wyoming, so I'm assuming windy), what targets would those of you who have shot there before recommend? - A couple of 2x4's pounded into the dirt with a chicken-wire backing to clothes-pin a paper target? - Some steel? - Other? Remember, I just got here from Northern Virginia where the only range I ever really shot at was 25-yard max indoor pistol. Outdoor shooting's a whole new world! Any help is appreciated _MaH ETA: Per SleeperShooter's recommendation - mhoffman (party of 1) confirmed. |
|
i will post gps coordinates this week.
also, i will make signs. so only Drilldo will get lost again. (sorry drilldo). i shoot steel targets. i have a good spot we can shoot out to 1000 yards. it is usually unocupied. yes, sometimes its windy. i wouldnt exactly say its close to wyoming. 45 miles isnt close is it? |

Count me in!
I will bring some large tarps to make clean up easyer. Some hand tools, a metal target and tape and some paper targets. I can bring some food or help pitch in on food costs. I have 1 open seat in my truck if some one needs a ride from Ft Collins. The place I was thinking is From the south(denver)Take I25 north to Exit 269A Ault Take Hwy14 east for approx 25miles to CR57, turn left on CR57(I'm pretty sure you can only turn left) go down CR57 for a few miles Turn Right on CR96 after a approx 1-2 miles You will come down a hill and the shooting spot will be on the right. Go to the back and we should have a good time. I'm up for a nother spot if any one knows a better one. Bryan CORRECTION sorry it is 269A I'm so used to getting off at 269B to go home. |

Thanks bud. -SleeperShooter |

I have 10 or so of those cardboard cut outs SS. I will bring them. I am taking the truck so I could help transport a grill if someone has one available. I will post my route in the carpool thread. I also have a few(4 or so)fence posts. The big 5 foot green kind. I could bring those if someone wants to pound them into the ground and help me remove them. I have set up way too many dog yards. And is the ground soft enough to get those in up there? |

From the south(denver)Take I25 north to Exit 269b Ault Take Hwy14 east If you take 269B you will be heading WEST into ft fun, Not EAST........ A is the first hwy 14 exit as you are heading North on I-25 B is the second. depending on what time. EARLIER (HINT) wind and weather wise is always better on the pawnee. i might actually wander out there. If i do i will bring a few AR500 plates |

I haven't been up to Pawnee since I first got here so someone else should give a good spot to shoot and we'll go from there. -SleeperShooter |

I'll start page 2
John_Wayne777 had a post in the GD with an interesting drill - according to him it's what the Federal Air Marshals use to qualify. Here's the thread - he posts the qualification criteria in the OP. I remember shooting something similar to this back in VA (we had FAMs practice at the range/store I worked at) and I passed - but it's been quite some time since I shot, so who knows. Passed that sucker drawing from a Serpa holster, too
Good God I bet I suck now

I posted a thread on the Co ar-15.com inviting who ever wants to join in the shoot. Hope fully some of them will join in, I know there is a lot of ARFcom members on the Co ar-15 board also.

| The thing to remember on Pawnee is that the sheriff will occasionally stop out and ask you to pack out what was packed in. And remember there are only 2 designated shooting spots in pawnee. I would love to join ya but I only get 4 days off a month and they fall in the middle. Good luck and be safe. |
|
the sheriff will probably never contact you.
it maybe that the Park Ranger contacts you. Since this is a national park. Maybe DOW if you are out during a hunting season. Since it is public land, you can shoot almost anywhere. There was one small area closed last year. it is 193,600 acres. the closed less than 640, due to the close proximity to homes. You may not leave established roadways with vehicles. But, you can shoot almost anywhere you can walk to that is safe to do so. I have a spot that will accomadate all of us. that is shooting in a safe direction that will allow shooting all the way out past 1000 yards. and if you dumb enough to bring shit out to shoot, and not pack it out, you need an ass kicking. |

What is the location that we are going to have the shoot at? See HBARs post above yours. HBAR can u post specifics? I'm not going to be near computer for 18 hours or so. Ill update OP tomorrow night with your directions. Thx. -SS Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

ok. here are a list of coordinates from my gps.
i have never really used it in the 7 years, i have owned. i never saw the need. but, for you tech geeks. point 1 Highway 14 at Ault. N 40 34.942' / W 104 43.885' point 2 County road 57 and Highway 14. N 40 38.320 / W 104 31.511 point 3 county road 57 and county road 96 N 40 40.931 / W 104 31.460 point 4 county road 96 and county road 63 SHOOTING SPOT 200 YARDS NORTH OF THIS SPOT. it was unaccesible today. i had to walk to get this waypoint. We were sliding sideways off and on the road. And because you made me go out today and almost get stuck a hundred times, I made my wife shoot in the rain and wind. We shot one of th Ars, the xd subcompact, and the 22/45 N 40 40.963 / W 104 28.090 Basically the directions from I-25 and Hwy 14. Highway 14 east through Ault continuing to County Road 57. Turning left (north) continue north for 3 miles. turn right (east) on county road 96 continue east for 3 miles until you get to county road 63. take a left (north) a couple hundred yards to top of hill. |

truck hell, it was the 13 year old mini van. and no she didnt wash it. i like to break out the power washer and do it, but with the non stop rain, it is still dirty. the guns are dirty too.
the roads in the pawnee are pure clay. so it doesnt matter what tires you have. they are instantly slicks. i probably should have driven my truck and left the family home. o well. |

Wow lotta new faces in here since I last visited the COHTF almost two years ago. I made it to the 2006 shoot where EN and Eco wanted to get tazered. I connected a few faces to ARFCOM names that also attended UNC/CSU. Its to bad I can't make this one, staffing @ my SO is just to low to get a Saturday off.
Be safe and have fun. Nomon |
