| Sadly, it didn't pass. But both Udall and Bennet voted in favor. Regardless of your politics, it might be a good idea to send them an email saying you're glad they did. |

The Mayors Against Illegal Guns Coalition are stating their campaign defeated the Thune Amendment. The following is a statement on their website:
"Mayors across the country have successfully defeated legislation in the U.S. Senate that would have stripped states of the right to control their own public safety laws. The defeat of the Thune Amendment preserves the right of states to set their own requirements for who may carry a concealed gun within their borders." This is funny as if you read the charter for the coalition, it says their only interest is fighting crime and preventing criminals from illegally obtaining guns. Go figure that one out. I mean, the Thune Amendment was about setting a common recognition across all states for those who have legally obtained the privilege to carry a concealed weapon. Most people obtain a CCW for protection purposes. This amendment was about extending that protection, in a sense, while traveling into another state. The MAIG "victory" only made their objective more difficult. How is defeating this amendment preventing crime and illegal gun ownership. Criminals and those who are carrying illegally will still continue to do so. The only thing their victory did was made me feel less secure while I'm traveling. The MAIG is nothing but a used car dealership with a lot full of freshly waxed lemons. Oh, and most politicians, not just Democrats, can not be trusted. When they start to form policy based on their career and not on the people for which they were elected to represent, fail in every aspect of what a democratic government is supposed to stand for. |
