We are planning a vacation.  What should I expect for weather in the Grand County the second week of October?

Colorado gets a TON of sunshine, year round.  Welcome, and enjoy!

Erratic. Like always.

You can get anything from Indian Summer to blizzards.

No joking at all. You can go from 80 and sunny to 20 with a foot of snow in three days or less at that time of year. It's happened here on the front range a few times, and the unpredictability is worse in the mountains.

If you flyfish...who the hell am I kidding? I'm so unsuccessful that I shouldn't be giving advice.

I agree with statement above.

October is when there is a huge climate change. It can be actually really hot from a first snow fall.

We used to expect the first big blizard in October. But after Cheney screwed up the weather with his weather machine, and Al Gore had to step in, its anybody's guess.

In Colorado if you don't like the weather, wait ten minutes or drive ten miles. It will change.

I DO flyfish (or at least something that from a long way away looks like it).

That's a perfect description of my abilities too!

It's still fun, though, and every once in a while a fish will find the fly.

I've been in Colorado probably 10 times mostly in the Summer and early Fall.  Is it wet in October.  We'll be at about 8700 ft.  I DO flyfish (or at least something that from a long way away looks like it).

I've hunted elk at that altitude in high top Converse football cleats and a tee shirt. The next year I was hunting the same spot in a parka, snow paks and 12" snow.

Is it wet in October?

Well, it'll be dry. Or rainy. Or snowy. Pack for all three.
