I'm moving into a new house.
I'm told I need to change the locks ASAP.
Is changing the locks something the marginally skilled ARFCOMMER can do or should I pay a locksmith to do it?

Does anyone know an ARFCOM approved locksmith in the Bonney Lake Area?

Thanks

Do you just want to change out all the cores and keep the current door hardware?

It is a fairly simple process.
I do locksmithing for a certain city north of Seattle.

Feel free to PM me with any questions.

I replaced the whole assembly on all of our exterior doors when I moved into my place, super easy (six screws). Went with the ones you can re-key yourself, each one took about 5 minutes to replace.

Im a Realtor and suggest you rekey every new property.  You never know who may have keys.  Dont forget to reprogram garage remotes.  You can wipe all programmed devices easily.
Even better if you get Kwik Set smart key locks.  Can change the keys in under a minute per lock.
Both are DIY projects with a screwdriver.

Kwickset smart key and the schlage equivalent are crap. They will break and lock you out of the house. Find the ones that don't have that "feature" and have the set keyed alike for free when you buy it. I've lost count the number of smart key locks I've had to drill out because of the reliability.

You can also pull the locks and take them to a locksmith and they will rekey them for a few dollars. You can buy rekeying kits on ebay and in a few minutes on YouTube learn to key them properly

take all deadbolts off your doors take them to a locksmith to rekey them. take those home reinstall them, and remove you door knobs with locks and go get them rekeyed. this is the cheapest way i have found without calling a locksmith but than your usually paying for an hour for what can be done in minutes.

I'd replace the whole door knob assembly unless the locks were both new and good, look for reviews on Amazon, some of them are cheap crap and are exactly that. It's not hard to replace, just a screwdriver.

Not hard to do,

it is most pleasant to do the job on a dry day that is not windy.  The door will be open for a while while you figure it out, drill, screw, shave off excess wood, etc so nice weather is helpful.

Most locks fit standard doors and have standard backsets.

I am not a locksmith and installed high security (Medeco) locks with no issues.

When we bought our house the realtor gave us a coupon for a locksmith to do all our locks.
Cost nothing,  i gave him a tip.
Ask.

I change my own locks, it's pretty simple if you don't need to drill new holes.

I consulted with Murphy.  Hired a Locksmith.
Cost was less than I thought it was going to be.  Got it done in far less time.
