What's the problem? I have a hot water valve in the shower thats been limped along to the point of no return and needs to come out. I want to stay away from the bigger outfits as the one I've used keep sending out different kids and some of their work has had to be redone. |

Is it leaking like it needs a new valve stem, or seat, or is the whole thing screwed up? The seat that the stem pushes into is corroded so it doesn't seal all the way. Over the years more and more tension has been put on the valve so now the stem has been worn down to a nub(think vicegrip shower knobs) making it impossible to turn off the water. It's old galvanized pipe behind lath and plaster wall. I'm fairly good at fixing stuff but this is getting into the realm of where I might home owner the shit out of this project. And i've got the fam damily that need to take showers that cant wait two weeks while im fixing it between work. I'm probably going to try and tackle it this weekend and see what i can do. If I get in over my head I'll call roto rooter. What I really need is a good recommended home improvement plumber guy. |

These guys are in tacoma and while a general contractor, they did plumbing as part of the work I had done (entire kitchen), came out great. Dunno if they do a job that small as your issue or not. http://www.reddoorrenovation.com/ Call em and get a price quote, shouldn't take long to know. |

The seat that the stem pushes into is corroded so it doesn't seal all the way. That's a pretty easy fix given you have replacement stems. Do you want to replace the entire valve assembly or just fix it?

With the valve seat being corroded and the stem worn to a nub, Its time for the whole valve to come out. |
