So I've noticed on the M1A Loaded coupons that Springfield Armory charges sales tax on orders from Washington state. Current laws and nomenclature in the book dictates that a business must have a base of physical operations in that state in order to collect sales tax. So I call SA and they do tell me they have an operation here in Washington, however they would not tell me what kind of operation they have here. So what physical operation does SA have in Washington?

Found only this

and this

so, nothing really.  No address in WA, but they do have UBI, so something's up, or soon might be up.

Probably something to do with the military, possibly at Ft Lewis or the Yakima training center.

Is this a moot point?  I only ask because of the new policy of WA collecting sales tax on ALL firearms transfers into this state.  This bit me in the butt when I went to pick up my Wilson Combat 1911 from the FFL, I wasn't aware I was going to have to pay sales tax on the purchase price!  Wilson decidedly does NOT have a storefront in Washington.

JBLM and YTC are Federal Reservations... so technically that wouldn't count. (Hence why the PX/BX are tax-free.)  Nothing that I know of on either base for SA either.

When I said "at Ft Lewis or Yakima" I meant business dealings off base.

Is this something new, or are you talking about the use tax that's been on the books forever, just not enforced?

Few months back Washington started asking online retailers to collect sales tax also, I.E. amazon etc, or I at least remember reading something along those lines.

found this link

http://dor.wa.gov/content/doingbusiness/businesstypes/industry/onlinesalesofgooods/

"The out-of-state seller, either directly or by an agent or other representative, performs significant service in relation to establishment or maintenance of sales into the state, even though the seller may not have formal sales offices in Washington or the agent or representative may not be formally characterized as a “salesperson.”
