| Dark green appears black very often, especially when they are at a distance and moving. And think about it. Joint Base Lewis Mcchord (the combined Army post Ft. Lewis, and the Air Force Base McChord), plus Naval Base Kitsap (the combination of the Navy bases), plus Whidby Island, plus the Marines around, plus the fact that there are at least four SOCOM units in the area, plus the WA ARNG, and ANG, plus the fact that often times JBLM and the surrounding areas are used for training for units from other areas, and a couple birds flying around doesn't really seem all that out of place. |

QFT. I usually pick up a few birds driving to work every morning... nothing out of the ordinary here.... |

They fly over my house (WA/OR border along the river W I-5) almost every night. SOmetimes they have lights on, sometimes not. I've thought about using my IR rangefinder to find out how high they ar eflying (seems really low) but decided that might not be the best idea. There is supposed to be some joint training with the DEA going on sometime in the very near future, if it has not already begun. |

I don't know what specific model Chinooks fly over the house regularly for years, coming and going. Groups of 2-4 usually. I'm 20 minutes south of JBLM at Chinook cruising air speed, at 480' elevation so they come over what seems relatively low. It's always a cheap thrill to feel 'em thunder past.
They seem to follow the I-5 corridor in this AO. Never even considered nefarious reasons for it. Pilots need stick time and the Army needs to burn fuel so who cares. |

I see one, two and three ship flights of Chinooks, Blackhawks and even the occasional Kiowa heading east or west over PA every month of so. I think they loop the peninsula as a training flight.
As for unusual, I saw a S-64 Skycrane heading west last week. Those things have a very unique whompity-whomp. |

I saw two pairs of Kiowas on different dates over the Woodinville Costco area. But around the Shelton area, you can see many 160th birds or Navy birds. We get numerous helicopters over our Mason Lake cabin near Shelton. They often fly very low. My young son and I waved to a gentleman hanging out the door on one and he returned the wave. My son was ecstatic - so was I. |

See them headed north along the I-5 corridor, but sometimes west along the river. |
