We are hoping to get some referral assistance to get a deck, ramp for our old dogs, and stairs for the deck built.  We need someone who is licensed, bonded, insured and all that business stuff, who can both design AND build the deck.

We aren't rich enough to do this project without a competitive bid process, and although we use Angies list, I would prefer to keep the work, (and money) inside our "community".  The work would be a couple of miles outside of Tacoma.

Please let me know if you know anyone who does this work, or if you do the work, please PM or email me.

I don't know if Erex is a contractor, but he is a great carpenter and could do that job easy.  I'll let him know about this thread...

The primary reason I want someone licensed and bonded is to take care of the possible liability if they are injured while working.

I'd be more worried about some shack hackers substandard practices causing the deck to separate from the house when the deck is loaded with a bunch of people.

Bingo!

A gypsy who gets hurt on your property doing rat work may have been trespassing. Besides you have homeowners to cover them.

Shoddy work left on your property can cause damages or be a bane in the future.

If it were me I would sketch it out, go to home depo add up all the materials.

Order a lot of Pizza call all the arfcomers over build the thing in a day and have a keger after the works done.

But that's just me

If the deck was a simple one, I wouldn't mind going the "do it yourself" way, and providing food, beer, and even "door prizes" for all those who helped out.  But this deck will be multi-level, and require some structural stuff that I really think would be best left to professionals.

I am very comfortable doing plumbing work, but like Clint Eastwood said:  "A mans gotta know his limitations."  So I don't mess with structural carpentry, or electrical work.  I don't mind getting wet, but I hate getting shocked, or having my carpentry fall apart in the middle of a party...

This is the route I'd go, no matter how complex your deck will be. Run joist 16 o/c and beams every 4 feet and you'll be gtg

I've been a framer for a good chunk of my life, and I'm sure you can find a few others with similar experience who would be willing to help out for a day or two.

ETA: if you're dead set on hiring someone IM me and I'll give you a phone # or two.

IM sent to dupemaster.

I also need an electrician to wire up the power and lights into my shop...   I hate getting shocked, so I don't do electrical work.
