I'm going to be on assignment up there for a few months in the Seattle/Bellevue/Redmond area.
I'll be bringing my Glock 34 with Lone Wolf Frame and LCP and will probably apply for CPL as well if allowed to. I know Texas CHL is not reciprocal. This gig might turn into something permanent, so ... what's the shooting scene up there like? Not my first time to the area, but first long-term assignment to the area. Been to the Seattle/Bellevue/Redmond area quite a few times in the past 12 years or so. Already have a few co-workers in the area who are shooters so I know I'm gonna get some range time. Where are the best places to shoot. buy ammo. buy firearms, etc. in those areas? |

I'm assuming you will be staying in King County while here. Depending on the local PD that processes your Washington State CPL it could take anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks so be prepared for that. If you have a CPL from another state that might be shorter, who knows.
As for shops, these are pretty much the only places you should visit. The rest have no selection and/or rip-off artists. Avoid anything that says Discount Gun Sales on the front of the building. The prices inside share nothing with the name. Rainier Arms http://www.rainierarms.com 3802 Auburn Way N, Ste 305 Auburn, WA 98002 Surplus Ammo and Arms http://www.surplusammoandarms.com 12729 Pacific Highway South Lakewood, WA 98499 West Coast Armory Pro Shop and Gun Range http://www.westcoastarmory.com 13216 SE 32nd Street Bellevue, WA 98005 Rainier Arms is THE AR candy shop. They carry every single high end part you could possible want for your AR and are known for their customer service. Surplus Ammo is THE place to get cheap ammo. They are regularly half the cost for the same ammo at other local shops. The people there are also super cool and friendly and have a great AR selection as well. West Coast is a extremely nice 5 star indoor range. I go every week for their "Friday Night Rifle League" which is a 3gun style indoor event minus the shotgun. They also have a weekly IDPA Pistol event on Tuesdays. A nice indoor range is key, because as you will find out in this area the weather is not always cooperating outside. I don't work for or associated with any of these businesses. This is simple the list of where I personally play and spend my hard earned cash. As for outdoor ranges, there is a dozen or more in the Puget Sound area. I will let you be the judge of them, but for the most part they are stuck up and heavily laden with rules and regulations. |

WA does issue to non residents (I have one and live in AL), you have to apply in person because they take your fingerprints at the time of application. It is good for 5 years. As pointed out it could take up to 60-90 days to get it, I got mine in about a week (was already in their system from having lived there and had a CPL at one time) Also, they will mail your CPL to your Home Address in Texas |

Not to mention The Monday night "Catch all" League (random events), and Tuesday night IDPA. |

Cool, thanks guys for all the info.
I'll be arriving Sunday. I'm hoping this could turn out to be a permanent thing (wife's not so happy about that), but I like the Washington area. In any case jobs in my field are plentiful up there. Not bad where I'm at now, but more plentiful there. Plus, let's face it, it's way more scenic up there than where I am now. Son graduates high school in June, so he could go to college anywhere we live. I don't have any NFA stuff, but plenty of non-NFA toys. |

Are there any magazine round restrictions in WA state? Are 17-rnd Glock mags OK?
Also what are the knife laws like, can I carry a Kershaw Blur and Scallion at the same time? The Blur has a 3-3/8" length blade, the Scallion is smaller. Just curious. BTW, anyone want to get together and shoot? |

No real state restriction on knives or length other than automatics. Some things could of course be open to the interpretation of the officer, but you'd pretty much have to piss him off to begin with. Some cities (Seattle and Tacoma for instance) do have more restrictive knife laws. |
I hate that stupid ad
