Sitting in my chair with all the dogs laying inside and the outside motion light goes on. We have some part time barn cats that come home now and again. I decide to take a look on the back porch and to my surprise I see a very large coon eating at The Hungry Dog Buffet. 1NASCAR come to look and there are at least 3. I said I will have to get my live trap from who I loaned it to tomorrow.
Shoot em!!! Problem is the feeder is against the wall of the house and the only lane of fire I have is at the house. SHOOT EM!!! We get to looking at them a little more and one is a Boone & Crockett and as I look closer, it has just a stub of a tail. 
GET OUT THERE AND SHOOT IT!!! So out I go with the shotgun, I sneak up there and can hear it really making a pig of itself on the dog food I just filled this afternoon. I have no shooting lane the BBQ and a couple of containers are blocking my view. So I come back in and she says, I didn't hear a shot.  I said I really can shoot there is no good shot and it is going to destroy the feeder.
WHO CARES, JUST SHOOT EM! DON'T YOU HAVE A .22 YOU CAN SHOOT THEM WITH?!!?! I said if I miss or even if I hit it, it is going to come through the wall. SO IT WILL BE A SMALL HOLE. I THOUGHT YOU WERE A GOOD SHOT?
I think I can get a retreating shot as it runs off the porch, back out I go. I sneak out there and hear it's buddies scurry down the boardwalk towards the bar and as my attention goes that way my target jukes me. 
I come back in and again and having to explain why there was no fire again. While doing so one trips the light again. I have been out moved the feeder to my advantage, turned on all the lights and am sitting and waiting for the motion to trip again. Then ambush.

'Sayin! I tried to make another one pay for it yesterday morning, but I was too slow with the gear (headlights) and live-trap (pistol). He knew I had a hangover too.... saw him smiling as I tried to get out of the pickup with my seatbelt still on.  |

Well "Bobtail"(we are first name basis now) tripped the light and I went into the kitchen to look at him. He does not like the new set up he realizes the jig is up and he was very nervous sniffing the feeder and jumping back. He has no cover and he knows it. I snuck out the front door but I think the squeak on the closing(now that he has a better ear shot to the front) spooked him. I have good cover from behind my PU and a good rest. I stayed out there until I began to shiver. A Tshirt and cutoff sweats is not what is needed in this hunt.
A new route is setup and I am better clothed. Waiting on the signal. |

Jesus - can we get this trashed before the Texas and Oregon guys show up? We bet we got 1GNR running around in the dark dressed like a Vietcong while the raccoon is already crashed out sleeping off his big meal.
Meanwhile at some point 'Steve' will trip the light while hot footing it across the lawn, thinking he is surround, due to waaaaay to much exercise, lack of sleep, and I'm guessing - a few too many beers, he will put some double ought buckshot through his dog's dish, slide and fall on his ass from the dew on the ground. The dogs will leave to go live with OdT since he actually collected some ears in his AO, and he can probably scrounge up a bowl that doesn't smell like 'coon or have holes in it. Meanwhile Steve the Cong will be proudly posting pictures of his ass bruise for the upcoming weeks. No one wins here except the well fed 'coon. |

Me I am not interested in fattening up Racoons/Possums so I don't leave it out. YMMV (yes this close to town we have problems with theiving pests) BTW Ben hates the squirrels, or any rodent. I don't think Sanar is really his brother.
