WTGG= Want to get gunsmithed There have been several times when person A has asked for help with a broken gun, and person R says "heck, if I'd known I would have brought a tool/part/lube*/fake ID etc. for you." Or person A just doesn't know who to ask. Plus I know a lot of folks just enjoy fixing stuff. We have a lot of good smithies in the group, or if not smithies per se, then otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts. For example, if someone needs a vise, RedTazDog can normally just make one out of aluminum cans, some gravel and a few squirts of WD40. But sometimes he is busy shooting...so better to just have one. So along those lines: if you are bringing some obscure tool, or if you need something reasonable fixed or troubleshat... ..then this is the thread for you. *usually mentioned by Bobbity |

My only Allen wrench long enough to reach inside AR grip has gone MIA. Need to borrow a 3/16. I offer no monetary compensation, but on your death bed, you will receive total consciousness. I have a "T-handle" that you can have. It is the perfect wrench for them. (a fair trade for bandoleers I think I also will bring my parts boxes and tools. Sorry to say with all the OT I have been working the vise will not be present. Slederwithagun made me a real nice stand for the motor home but I havent mounted the vise. It will appear at the Jan/Feb shoot. |

If you have a socket wrench set with a screwdriver handle, put a 1/4" socket on it and then put a 3/16 hex driver bit into that. |

did you get the one he yanked out of my AR last LCR by chance?
That one's in my tool box along with the brass. The replacement you gave me ended up in Veritas's rifle where it didn't work. AUW, Does it extract? What do you mean replacement? I gave you the one back that you gave me when you swapped the bad one out. |

Tweak, Never missed a beat, not a single FTE or anything "Weird" ever occured. Other fellas, First thing I did when I discovered the groves was to inspect the breach lugs, no scratching, marking, scarring or even lines in the carbon/grit on the surface, so I kind of rulled out contact damage. ETA: Oh, Looks like the damage was in a aft to fore direction, look at this picture: http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f198/auwalker/AR15/Moms241.jpg you see how some material was "scraped" over onto the leading edge/face of the extractor. Bad pic I know, but again, you guys will probably be able to imagine what I'm talking about. Could have been the first barrel you had. The threading was fucked, who knows what else was! |

That doesn't look like it was scraped forward/contact damage at all.
It looks like substandard steel (wrong carbon/iron ratio on a bad batch, etc.) that didn't fill the whole mold, or softened/melted during use. Quoted:
That's a manufacturing error, send that shit back. +1 |
