I've never had a dog before and I swear, she came up to us and gave me a Golden Retriever  "I have just met you, and I love you" right out of the movie.
Mrs. FishKepr has dog experience and quickly established herself as 'Alpha'.

The dog is 3 years old and lived on a farm before she was given up for adoption.

So, how do we condition her for LCR?

I would recommend you limit her to just beer for her 1st LCR. So start of at 1-2 a day and build up from there.

This is Mrs Fishkepr, Since I am alpha, I can easily train her to use a 38. Hah, she can protect Lilly.

This is Mrs Fishkepr:

For other dogs, I think she has work to do.  We went to PETCO and she growled at a dog and that was it.  Perhaps she was excited because she was in a new situation.  We are going to have her in classes.  FIshkepr and Little Fishkepr both need to take them more than myself.  I grew up around dogs until I was round ten, however from my years at PETCO and volunteering at the zoo, I have learned a lot about training techniques.

We are also need to work on crate training. She did OK last night, but Fishkepr sat with her until she went to sleep.

Now she's SOCIALIZED. This breed is classified as a working dog right? Either way - she won't have to work anymore. Gobernment Cheeze... Sorry. Couldn't help myself.

'Sporting' class actually.  GRs were originally developed as a 'gun' dog.

The pooch won't need a 38 and will protect Lilly naturally!

After a trip to PetSmart today we're starting to learn that she does not play well with other dogs.  To be fair, some of the dogs there today were rather aggressive.

For the crate training, throw one of your dirty t shirts in the crate.

No joke.

You've of course considered training Lil'Keeper to be aware of the dog, and how to interact with it? THAT might be your bigger challenge...

Dogs usually take to little kids as either a protector or as their masters pretty early on.

Yes, we don't let her take the dog anywhere alone.

BTW, it's looking bad for LCR. The dog saw a neighborhood terrier during a walk tonight that snorted at her and she came unglued.

She gets along so well with people, but other dogs we need to work on.

I have good news about our GR.

A professional trainer evaluated her 'dog aggression' issues this evening. In her opinion our dog can be desensitized, and to prove it she successfully introduced her to a test dog with a minimum of effort and only a few minutes of conditioning. This trainer obviously knows her stuff and we signed up for sessions at once.

Does the dog need work? Absolutely, but after seeing the results from only 30 minutes of effort I'm confident now that she'll be fine.

ETA:  She's just about fully crate trained now too.

She might have been fine with only 15 minutes. Have a little faith wouldja?

Hope for sale. Wake me when dags are left to be dags.

8 minute abs?
