Today I have found out why so many people fucking hate banks. Over a month ago I closed a bank account with US Bank. Today they informed me that I owed them for over $1700 in charges in the last 15 days. I politely told them that I had that account closed weeks before those charges were made and that they were not valid. I am now currently on hold and playing phone pong with these asshats. I fucking hate banks. |

Quoted: Hopefully AMESO will put down the chickens long enough to add some useful helpful information that will allow you make this right. Hey Drew, I work at a bank and I hate big fucking banks. Chase, US Bank, Bank of America (where I worked for 10 years), they suck slimey donkey dongs. Basically they are run as silos. Each deparment only handles what they handle, and nothing else. They pass you along to someone else who they don't know, and then you get to tell your story all over again. Sound familiar? Community banks and credit unions should be your primary financial institutions, but if you travel around the state, or within the US, it is helpful to deal with the devil (big banks) for emergencies. Regulation E is your friend. Let them know that you have had unauthorized activity on your account, fraud, and that you are willng to provide a police report should they need it. If you want to discuss the entire issue offline, send me an IM with your digits and I'll give you a call when it is convenient for you. We'll go over your issue, I'll help you formulate a plan that they cannot help but agree with. Fair enough? Andy |

Here is the data you need. § 205.6 Liability of consumer for unauthorized transfers. (a) Conditions for liability. A consumer may be held liable, within the limitations described in paragraph (b) of this section, for an unauthorized electronic fund transfer involving the consumer's account only if the financial institution has provided the disclosures required by § 205.7(b)(1), (2), and (3). If the unauthorized transfer involved an access device, it must be an accepted access device and the financial institution must have provided a means to identify the consumer to whom it was issued. (b) Limitations on amount of liability. A consumer's liability for an unauthorized electronic fund transfer or a series of related unauthorized transfers shall be determined as follows: (1) Timely notice given. If the consumer notifies the financial institution within two business days after learning of the loss or theft of the access device, the consumer's liability shall not exceed the lesser of $50 or the amount of unauthorized transfers that occur before notice to the financial institution. (2) Timely notice not given. If the consumer fails to notify the financial institution within two business days after learning of the loss or theft of the access device, the consumer's liability shall not exceed the lesser of $500 or the sum of: (i) $50 or the amount of unauthorized transfers that occur within the two business days, whichever is less; and (ii) The amount of unauthorized transfers that occur after the close of two business days and before notice to the institution, provided the institution establishes that these transfers would not have occurred had the consumer notified the institution within that two-day period. (3) Periodic statement; timely notice not given. A consumer must report an unauthorized electronic fund transfer that appears on a periodic statement within 60 days of the financial institution's transmittal of the statement to avoid liability for subsequent transfers. If the consumer fails to do so, the consumer's liability shall not exceed the amount of the unauthorized transfers that occur after the close of the 60 days and before notice to the institution, and that the institution establishes would not have occurred had the consumer notified the institution within the 60-day period. When an access device is involved in the unauthorized transfer, the consumer may be liable for other amounts set forth in paragraphs (b)(1) or (b)(2) of this section, as applicable. (4) Extension of time limits. If the consumer's delay in notifying the financial institution was due to extenuating circumstances, the institution shall extend the times specified above to a reasonable period. (5) Notice to financial institution. (i) Notice to a financial institution is given when a consumer takes steps reasonably necessary to provide the institution with the pertinent information, whether or not a particular employee or agent of the institution actually receives the information. (ii) The consumer may notify the institution in person, by telephone, or in writing. (iii) Written notice is considered given at the time the consumer mails the notice or delivers it for transmission to the institution by any other usual means. Notice may be considered constructively given when the institution becomes aware of circumstances leading to the reasonable belief that an unauthorized transfer to or from the consumer's account has been or may be made. (6) Liability under state law or agreement. If state law or an agreement between the consumer and the financial institution imposes less liability than is provided by this section, the consumer's liability shall not exceed the amount imposed under the state law or agreement. [Codified to 12 C.F.R. § 205.6] [Section 205.5 amended at 44 Fed. Reg. 33837, June 13, 1979, effective August 1, 1979; 44 Fed. Reg. 46434, August 8, 1979, effective September 10, 1979; section 205.5 amended and redesignated as section 205.6 at 44 Fed. Reg. 19670, May 2, 1996] Tell them to suck on this. You have 60 days from your statement date. |

First. US Bank sucks balls. Second. US Bank sucks balls. I had an account with US Bank for probably... 6-7 years. I was never really happy with their service but they were just under that line where they didn't cause enough headaches to warrant making the switch. They eventually started to charge fees if you didn't maintain a minimum balance (for a simple savings account). So I canceled. The next month I got a letter in the mail saying I was given a fee for having a $0.00 balance. Then an overdraft since the fee put me in the negatives (about $30 total). So I went down and went all WTF on the branch manager. He apologized said he would wipe the fees and then close the account. Good. Another month later and I get the same bullshit letter, fee and overdraft. So I went to see the same branch manager and went all OMGWTFBBQ! He said that the account can't be closed until 24 hours of no activity. So when he wiped the fees the account was open and couldn't be closed for 24 hours and he must have forgot to close it the next day... WTF kind of BS is that? It happened one more month and then I went to the main office, ripped the manager a new asshole until they deleted my account right in front of me and gave me written and signed confirmation. Told them if I had to come back again I would be doing so with a lawyer. Edit: Been with Spokane Teachers Credit Union ever since and I love it. Have zero complaints and many compliments for how they have handled everything I have asked for. |

Spent about an hour at the local bank branch this morning. We found out someone has been taking multiple debit cards out in my name. So there would be 7 or 8 cards linked to one account and so on. I've gotten that all cleared up. The guy who helped me was much more helpful than the dicks on the phone. But that's dividing from 0. Anyhow, I am going to be looking at getting an account some place else. Either USAA or a credit union some where. I am open to suggestions Keep in mind, because of shit like this my credit is shot to hell. |

They, IIRC will assist you with rebuilding credit as well. |

Quoted: It started when I was studying in Israel while in college. So how did you get hit with identity theft? I thought I had that cleared up and maybe I did. My first deployment my whole platoon had our ID's stolen by some asshat in finance. This time... I'm not sure yet. |
| Ive got a saving account and 2 car loans thru QUalstar Credit Union. Ive been happy with them, no complaints at all. They've even called to remind me I shoulda paid my car payments a time or two, rather then just sending me a nasty letter. AND ! they havent fucked up my accounts unlike Wells Fargo did. |

BECU FTMFW BECU has a two star rating by bankrate.com currently. I don't know how good bankrate.com's projections are but I'm sure they are better than mine. First Technology CU is what I use along with Bank of America. They have some locations in Bellevue, Kirkland & Redmond. They are currently four star according to bankrate.com. They do have eligibility requirements you have to meet though (work for a sponsor company, be a student, goverment employee, etc.). I think the "live in any school district in Washington" might have you covered. |
