If anyone that is going to LCR has some tools/tricks/ very small levels to fit under scope to help me level a few scopes up when we are there I would greatly appreciate it. Not enough room in the shop for the higher power scopes to see the plum-bob. Nothing like trying to get stuff ready at the last second.

In return for such a favor, you can of course shoot said rifles on my dime....with in reason - I aint made of money. After they are zeroed in of course.

ETA- Figured it might help if you know what Kinda rifles I am talking about

1. Rem 700 308 w/ NF 5.5-22
2 Ar15 223 w/ NF 3.5-15

, I got a few ACD but those aint any good till every thing else is leveled up and good to go. I really need one of those offset bubble levels that attatched on the rail so I know my gun is level. Then I can hang a plum bob and level scope off that. Man I hate leveling scopes.

Sounds like a lot of work. You should give it to me for proper disposal.

You can dispose of some copper coated pointy things if I can get them zeroed

A $7.00 feeler guage works great.

Check out THIS thread, about halfway down where the photos start.  Has always worked great with my NF scopes.

Good way to do it with no extra tools

Not going or I would loan out my reticle leveler which squares the reticle up to the bolt.  It only works on bolt action rifles, however.  You remove the bolt, set this in place of the bolt, and line up the verticle reticle with the mark.  Tighten and you are done.  I ordered it from midway years ago.  I just searched and don't find it on their sight anymore.

Never tried the feeler gauge method, might have to give that a shot.

Carl, any more info on the tool you got? Might be something I should invest in

Doesn't it make the most sense to shoulder the rifle and set the reticle orientation so that it is plumb in the firing position?  Why care that it is square to the rifle if your stable rifle position is not square to the horizon?

If I'm wrong, please educate me.

Your elevation and windage adjustments will not correspond correctly if your reticle/scope is not mounted perpendicular to the bore.

By golly, you are correct about it making a difference for windage.  Good point.

Elevation is always a game of arc intersecting straight line.  The higher the sight line is from the bore line the more it is affected by range.

Bring a framed door.
Line up the scope.
Shoot door.

I'm sure there'll be plenty of Tannerite...

Ha, I never even thought of leveling the scope/reticle!

I leveled the rifle, then mounted the scope and out a small bubble level on the turret knobs, do some test shooting and call it good.

I'll have to check the reticle level next time. I could level the reticle using a level short distance, and then put the target some distance and level it.

Pretty much using Carl's method.
