Well, about a year ago I got to be one of the many laid off unexpectedly. A few weeks shy of  a year later, at 1:30pm today, I find myself unemployed again.

The big difference is... This time it was on MY terms.  And it will only last a week an a half while I enjoy family time in Hawaii.  After Thanksgiving I start a new job, with less commute, a LOT more money, better benefits, back to doing what I was previously doing, and I'm a lot happier for it.

I just thought I'd share.  There are jobs out there.  I had to be persistent and the time from 1st contact to final formal offer was over 2 months and included email screening, phone screening, and 3 in person interviews with various people.

Hawaii?  Again?

You might be needing that pay increase!

Excellent! I'm glad you found a stop gap yob to hold you over.

Congrats on the new and improved job.

While I was happy to have the stop gap... The last months at the stop gap were MISERABLE.  That is the only reason this is such a big deal for me.

You work in an industry that needs references from past employers so I'm assuming  you weren't able to go out in a blaze of glory.

Yobs are good to have. We're in the "hire and fire" mode and I'm expecting my turn to come up at some point tween now and June.

Cool.
Where'ya goin' to in Hawaii?

I've been to Kauai once.
I'm looking forward to going to the islands again, but not sure which one to visit.

Congratulations on the new job and family vacation!

Glad to hear this C&7.  Things are gonna look up for you in a big way, I guess.  I remember you posting before about not being happy where you were, in the "temporary" job, so good deal.

I liked it better when you were bitching, complaining, gripping, telling us about the fagotry on your[soon to be] old job.

Unfortunately... BUT those that I would have gone off on, have all been at that particular company for 10, 15, and 20 years.  I don't think they were going anywhere, nor would I ever be concerned about crossing paths ever again.  I did have a few moments where I was going to because I already had the new job lined up.  My supervisor was pretty cool about everything and made sure some of the past bullshit the head of IT pulled with other exiting employees didn't happen with me.  Although, I won't see my last paycheck until next week, so If I'm fucked with at ALL there will be hell to pay.

Maui.  It's my wife's and my favorite spot.  It's a perfect blend of the slow quiet island like Kauai, with some nightlife and stuff to do like Oahu. This will probably be my 10th trip to the islands.  I was lucky enough to work for a clothing company that had stores there that required IT work at least twice a year, and being the Sr. person, I typically got to go when I wanted!
