    Does anyone know:

Is an AR-15 considered a rifle or pistol in Washington State (I have heard that it is a pistol since it has a pistol grip. Sounds crazy, but I just want to make sure.)?
And if an AR-15 is a rifle, what are the laws for transfer of ownership?

[#1]
An AR-15 is considered a rifle in ALL states if it has a barrel that is 16" or longer and a stock of some sort. An AR-15 is considered a pistol when it has NO STOCK and a short barrel. If a stock is attached to a short barrelled AR-15 then it has been made into a SBR (short barrelled rifle), which is illegal without going through the proper federal channels and paying for a tax stamp ($200).

In WA State AR-15's are legal, and there are no restrictions as to capacity as there are in some other states (think CA). You are NOT required to register firearms in WA state, and private party transfeers are legal and need not be documented with the state.

ETA: Come on over to the WA hometown forum...we'll be nice I promise.

Not sure on the laws in Washington State. You might want to post this question over int the Washington Hometown Forum, I'm sure that someone over their will have the answer your looking for.

ETA: Welcome to the sight.

Thanks for the info. And I'll come down to the Wa forum. Thanks for the invite!

Another question. I bought a Bushmaster at Cabeala's. Does that mean it is registered with the state? They did a background check, but didn't give me a registration number or anything like that.....
10/1/2009 6:15:29 AM EDT
[#5]
No, no state registration here in WA.  When you filled out the 4473 at Cabelas, they call it into NICS.  All NICS asks is if it is a rifle, pistol, or other.

Then do it again, because they're obviously too stupid to have felt it the first time.

That's as bad as the gun store employee that told me, with a straight face,  the 460 Weatherby Magnum was "sixty caliber."

It's like calling a rifle a helicopter because it has a "thing that goes up".

I thought this was going to be about someone moving here and wanting to know about registering their vehicles or boat or something like that - not thier firearm?!?!

We have not been annexed to the PRK .... yet.

Apologies for not bringing beer. http://drboycefinance.files.wordpress.com/2008/11/simpsons_duff_beer_can_cards-t.jpg

Now, I wonder if that answers my question. My main concern, being new to Washington state and damm proud that I moved to this wonderful neck o the woods, is a scenario like what happened in Hurricane Katrina. National Guard was banging on the door of any registered firearm owner and telling them to hand over their weapons. With all the talk of HINI quarantine, I am wondering if some day there might be a nice man at my door asking me to give up my possessions. Is this a question for the second amendment forum?
I recall seeing the "pistol grip" theory on a forum somewhere and wanted to make sure it wasn't some loop hole in the law to keep such an exquisite rifle from the common patriots hands. It sounded ludicrous to me as well, but you never know with the law....
Thanks to all with helpful replies!

Remember kids, gun registration is illegal.

OP you need to adjust your tinfoil as it appears to be too tight.

Last, get that AR out on the water ASAP.

La la la la la la.....is my reply. Read some history. If you think controlling powers are %100 truthfull and trustworthy then you are merely living in the bubble of prosperity that this country was lucky enough to fall into. I'm no wacko. Just looking out for my rights. If you don't, somebody bigger with more money will come along and take them away from you...

Oh yeah, and if you don't have something to add to the discussion, then why are you wasting your time with it?

Talk about hilarious...

I was looking for the "real" version of this clip, but this is just too funny not to share...

About 2:40 into it - you'll laugh your butt off and then you'll see it and laugh even harder... (at about 3:18)

If you walk into a room full of strangers and starting beating your chest and tossing your poop around, those glares you're getting might have more to do with your own behavior.

Wow. He went from asking a question to telling us to fuck off in 3.2 seconds.
