[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Rifle Range Rule (Page 1 of 2)

Hi,
I wanted to express my frustration of the rule with regards to loading one round at a time at certain local rifle ranges. The is a completely ignorant rule when someone complies with the other rule of only shooting one round at a time and no rapid fire. I had some whinny ass black power shooting hunter, complain because I was loading my magazines with three rounds. Hell, I even check my shot location with my binoculars after every shot fired! They would not try pulling that shit at any pistol ranges because no one would go. 90% of all the pistols shot at ranges are semi auto, why does the lack of acceptance not apply to semi auto rifles? I guess I have to start shooting somewhere else... |

First off, your bitching because YOU broke the rules. Did you ever think the rules MIGHT be in place to get rid of people like YOU? People that can't shoot single rounds? I'd go into detail on why local rifle ranges are like that, but you probably wouldn't understand. If you even cared, you'd have been happy loading one round at a time and this post would not exist. |

Don't shoot there anymore. Simple.
That is an idiotic rule, I agree. But businesses can make whatever stupid rules they want. I know it's sometimes a pain in the ass to find a different range, depending on your location, schedule, etc. I wouldn't shoot at a range with that rule, fuck 'em. Every public range has it's rules.......................I usually do rifle work at Tacoma Sportsmens Club. They at least allow 10 rnds per mag (no rapid fire, of course). It is what it is. |

Some of us shoot at a free range. How many ranges do you know that have been around 83 years and will let you shoot tannerite and 50's and rapid fire and bump fire? I quit looking when I found it near by. I thought everyone had a good range until all the range nazi stories popped up. |

Unfortunately most public ranges are. This "free range" you speak of sounds mighty good. I'm gonna have to find that one. |

most of the ranges that have the one round only rule are the ones that don't have enough properly trained people to watch the range. the implimintation of this rule is for the safety of others because they can't watch every one.
I agree the rule sucks. the ranges should have enough personnel to watch the range. |

There are members here that belong to this range. Membership is by invitation only though.

I bet you on this great big board that there's at least one person who can understand. So would you PLEASE do us a favor and explain why local ranges are like that? The question was, "Why are local ranges like that" referring to the one round at a time rule. Many outdoor ranges are facing shut down, even ones that have been with us for 50+ years do to the encroachment of retards and cut throat land developers that want the prime real estate that sits under ranges that used to be "out in the sticks". Kenmore being the one that sticks out the most. To non-shooters, especially cloud sniffing, tree hugging liberals, a few well spaced shots 2-3 seconds between rounds X 5-6 shooters sounds EXACTLY like skinheads shooting AK-47's. All they know is their nice house is down range from that loud, obnoxious range that pours led into the ground and they complain and bitch. Couple that with the ridiculous amount of new shooters, that probably have no formal training, let alone the saftey knowledge people should have about guns by the time their 10, no wonder outdoor ranges, with no overhead protection to stop rounds from leaving the range, limit mag caps. I've seen it before, at Kenmore specifically during a DCM match, late winter, heavy jacket, prone position, shooter had good follow through, and by keeping his finder on the trigger, pulled to the rear; The rifle rebounded and bump fired. Had it been in a different position, that round could have EASILY sailed off into the sunset, killing and maiming and blah blah blah. Long story short, outdoor ranges don't want the liability, and have to cater to the LOWEST common denominator of shooter. Hence, one round loaded at a time. Look at Ebey Island. Not only do they worry about rounds going over their VERY short berm, they have to worry about ground water ricocheting also (next stop cars on HWY 2)! One round at a time forces people to slow down, take their time and actually practice the FUNDAMENTALS of marksmanship, which is why one goes to a range in the first place. This restriction also chases off the non-hackers, people that think practice involves bump firing, and the ilk. I don't know about anyone else, but having shot competition, I'm as comfortable shooting one round at a time as accurate as possible, as I am screaming "die mother fucker die" behind a 240G. By bitching about the rule of loading one round at a time, it shows a lack of credibility as a marksman, I'm not singling out the OP by any means, but this is the SAME gripe I hear ALL the time. I've jumped on people on seattleguns.com for the same thing, a lack of respect for shooting ranges. Thats basically what it boils down to. Because the range won't allow you to shoot a specific way, all of the sudden "It sucks" and is full of "range Nazi's". Well, go to a place like Ebey Island, where they also have a one round at a time rule, call that guy a "Range Nazi" even he has a member ship to every other range around to support them, and is a unpaid volunteer trying to keep a place accessible to shoot! I'd love to get all the people that go to a range (when they could have gone outdoors) then bitch about policies, to get together and trow down money to build a training center. BUT since that's a blue sky dream, I myself will go to the woods to get yardage, and to indoor ranges that allow quick well aimed fire. In summary, "Ranges are like that" because of liability, retards wrecking it for everyone else, and posting policies to chase out people they don't like. Does that answer your question? |

Edit- You are the one that got CAUGHT breaking the rules, not me. You'll notice I didn't say ANYTHING about your safety practices so I don't know why you brought them up. Normally at ranges that have a one round at a time policy, if you put up with it for awhile, they will chill and let you load more. If you are new (remember new may mean months to years) and start by breaking simple rules why should they want you to stick around? |

The question was, "Why are local ranges like that" referring to the one round at a time rule. Many outdoor ranges are facing shut down, even ones that have been with us for 50+ years do to the encroachment of retards and cut throat land developers that want the prime real estate that sits under ranges that used to be "out in the sticks". Not exactly true. If I remember correctly, 1 particular range setup shop on leased land. The owner of said land decided to sell or just not renew the lease (for whatever reasons are their own, and their business). That has nothing to due with a cut throat land developer, retards, or anyone but the range owner decided not to own the land his/her particular business in on.
Weak excuse, those same cloud sniffing, tree hugging liberals, wouldn't know the difference if 50 people are each firing 1 shot each within 1 minute vs. 1 person shooting 30 rounds in that same minute. Couple that with the ridiculous amount of new shooters, that probably have no formal training, let alone the saftey knowledge people should have about guns by the time their 10, no wonder outdoor ranges, with no overhead protection to stop rounds from leaving the range, limit mag caps.
Another BS excuse, I have absolutely ZERO formal training. Does that make me more dangerous than someone that took a single class at well credited facility? Before you answer, take into consideration the following. I have grown up shooting since I was about 8. My grandfather, father, and uncle taught me to shoot, My uncle a Wyoming Stater is the only one of the 3 with formal training. In my 23 years of shooting I've probably put more rounds down range then most 18-20 year olds who just joined the military and received training or someone who bought their first gun and signed up for some classes somewhere. Your line of thinking would lead one to believe I'm a far greater liability or risk than the later. To much emphasis around here has been put on "formal training" like taking a 3 day class makes you better than someone with years of practical experience. Change this instance to the job market. Does some kid fresh out of college know more about business because he has a degree than a 45 year old who has been working in business for 25 years? I've seen it before, at Kenmore specifically during a DCM match, late winter, heavy jacket, prone position, shooter had good follow through, and by keeping his finder on the trigger, pulled to the rear; The rifle rebounded and bump fired. Had it been in a different position, that round could have EASILY sailed off into the sunset, killing and maiming and blah blah blah.
I have no reason to not believe you saw this personally, but I've also seen a lot of people at our LCR shoots TRY to bumpfire on purpose and not be able to, a secondary accidental shot is harder to achieve then one often thinks. Furthermore, if a person wanted they could send a single round off into the sunset at an outdoor range, the bullet doesn't know any better, nor does the gun, if they were placed on target or not. It comes down to the person pulling the trigger. If Bulld4wg was shooting the way he described (again, like you, I have no reason to no believe him), then it shouldn't matter if he had 1 round in the mag or 30. Did he break the rules, sure. I don't think he's arguing that, he knows he did. The problem is it's a useless rule (in my opinion and the opinions of a lot of people here who don't use ranges with these types of rules). I think Bulld4wg would have been better to grip about 1) the rule itself and 2) the "do gooder" who took it upon himself to give him the what fore based on what COULD happen. ...And before we go down that argument, find Marauders thread about "Calling one in" in regards to a truck driver operating his rig in a manor that Marauder though was unsafe. You'll see a lot of weighted opinions. Classify much?? I would like to see sales figures. Going off the hip, I would venture to say "Black Rifles" and semi-autos probably out sell Single shot hunting rifles and revolvers quite regularly. I would venture to GUESS AR/AK shooters are no longer the lowest common denominator of shooter. The type of rifle you shot does NOT classify your fundamentals. Self Control forces people to slow down and take their time, not a 1 round rule. Hell I could load and round an fire it just because I could, it doesn't mean I'm aiming at jack shit.
I don't think that way. A person can be a marksman with 30 rounds, 100 rounds, or 1 round. Mag capacity has nothing to do with marksmanship or ability. I share his "pain" so to speak. But I don't bitch about it here, and I doubt Bulld4wg will anymore, I just don't frequent that/those ranges. If enough people do the same and vote with their wallet or feet, the range will not close because of some BS liberal, or liability, or whatever. They will close because of a lack of business. Also, why is it up to you to "Jump on people" here or at seattleguns.com? You seem to have a holier than thou attitude. The way I've read your two posts here, you appear to think you are better then everyone else because you have formal training, you practice 1 shot at a time (marksmanship in your words), and you shoot competition. I'm willing to bet your shit doesn't stink either. While we welcome all types and raz each other back an forth (see fudd comments and "operator" comments), you may want to check the URL, this is AR15.com a site dedicated to black rifles and the accessories that go with them (read 30 round mags). Thats basically what it boils down to. Because the range won't allow you to shoot a specific way, all of the sudden "It sucks" and is full of "range Nazi's".
This is the one thing I can agree with. I think Bulld4wg has learned his lesson, and I believe he was blowing off some steam. |

Hey, I could care less what people do, but if they break established rules, and get CAUGHT, then they deserve what they get. If he was sly, he could have gotten away with loading multiple rounds. It's not that tough, it just takes an awareness of surroundings. This is why I'm glad I have my less known pit up north, and know of indoor ranges with no mag caps for rifles, where you can train pretty effectively. |

I go to issaquah and they have a 10 round limit they don't really enforce much and their rapid fire is only bitched at by people sitting next to me cause my YHM flash hider sends muzzle blasts to the shooters on the sides. But guess what when they complain they get told "move a few benches down then if you don't like the noise; you are only going to be there for 10 minutes siting in your rifle for hunting season then you are going to leave. Frankly I find people who try to justify the rules just as stupid as the rules themselves; seriously man you are actually trying to put logic behind some of the most illogical shit ever. |
