It looks like we will have quite the turnout this weekend and I got to thinking about the logistics of the line.

I'll be bringing a couple large tarps and would assume that the MS one will be missing this time. I have a couple smaller ones to put in front of the line for brass flying that direction which worked well last time.

The rope demarcating the line in April was genius, was that Tele? It would be cool to do again.

Saturday noon to 1 lunch/cleanup pit shutdown?

Just thought I'd throw the topic out there for discussion

First we need to know if the pit is opened.

You hit on the biggest thing, the rope needs to be about 4' behind the front edge of the line.

Carbine has always done a great job with the clean up. (a bunch of people don't want to pick up the mess)

If you set up a designated time to clean up you can just watch the people leave the line 10 minutes before.

I will bring two big tarps, and plan on setting my canopy up 4' behind. I will also bring a magnet to pick up the steel you cheap fuckers shoot!

I bought my own shooting bench so the boy won't camp out on yours, Dino

We really do need to find out if the pit is open or not. 1GR, OdT? What'll it take to send up a scout?

I'll bring a few tarps, a couple folding tables, and a cover (in case of rain) that will be set up ADW. Don't know if I have a rope that's long enough, but I'll see what I got.

I agree with having a few stop and pick up cease-fires on Sat.

CarbineMonoxide does a great job at range-marshal! If all the newbs and guests listen to him and and mayor bobbity, we should be fine.

Of course those who complain (Big Scrun, I'm talking to you!) should come and help us all stay safe.

Someone, by mistake took my large tarp last time.
I am wondering my self which pit will be usable.

I'll pick up some rope and help you with the set-up Tele

I will gladly give how-to's, what-for's and why-da-fuck's to the noobz. If I miss any, point them toward me. I can bring a couple good sized tarps, too. I have no problem at all with Carbine Monadnock doing RO duty. Range safety is everyone's responsibility, but he can call hot/cold at his discretion. I will be spending some time with a few guests, but will not, nay never shirk my responsibilities as hizzoner.
Can I shoot the rope this time?

Thank you 1GR!

Dodger_San and I were talking today and he suggested using yellow caution tape instead of rope. Any thoughts?

Ben chewed holes in that tarp. Gone but not forgotten.

Only a Lab can kill a 60X40 tarp.

Good to hear it is a go with the pit.

Gator I still have about 200' 150' of rope.

Ben is a tripod but looks like he will beable to get in the truck without help.

Fly in ointment is work is talking about putting me back on a 60 hour week again. I can't complain as many aren't that lucky, but their timing sucks.

A rope on the tarp––a few feet back from the edge so we'll catch some forward ejecting brass––has served us well for about 6 or 7 years. Caution tape will get caught by the wind.  The rope delineates where your muzzle should be.

I saw a picture of one of the recent shoots where the line was suspended in the air in front of the bullets. I didn't understand that set-up.

It was a horizontal target.

I thought that it was a pretty good idea. It got nicked a couple times, but seemed to be a more tangible presence of where the line is supposed to be. For that shoot it wasn't a necessity; however, for one this size with a lot of new folks I was thinking that anything helps.
