Shot in the dark but I hope someone might be able to tell me what they think the issue may be.

1997 Wrangler 4.0L.  Today when driving felt like no power was getting to the wheels.  Had to shift into higher gears to keep going.  2nd gear had little to no power (usually pulls VERY strong in 2nd).  Now has an idle issue as in doesn't want to idle at a stop.  Clutch seems just fine, no noises at all, no smells, no new oils spots in the driveway.
Never had any issues with her I'm the 2nd owner has 112,000 miles.

Anyway to see if it's not my tranny?  Or am I pretty much F'd

I think you are pretty much F'd. Best bet would be limp it to a transmission shop or mechanic and have them diagnose it if you don't want to tear it down yourself.

Going to be doing that tomorrow.  Took it for a test run and all seems to be working just fine now.  But WTF do I know.

Hey, I had a 97 Wrnagler as well that did the EXACT same thing at about 120K. it turned out the exhaust took a shit and the baffles were plugging the exhaust gases from escaping out the tail pipe. New Muffler might be in order.

do you have an ‘Service Engine Warning’ light on?

Nope no warning lights at all.  I did the clutch test (E-break on, put in 2nd gear let out the clutch... dead. tried it in 3rd same thing... so the clutch seems G2G) took her out on a test run and everything seems to be on the up an up.

Fuel filter is clogged

I’m guessing it’s either an EGR Valve or an O2 Sensor? … I had a 93 Blazer 4.3L that played that game (no power and wouldn’t idle in gear at a light) … but it usually gives a warning light indicator, when either of those fail!

start with easy and cheap first, check the air filter. Then do some research to see if you have a fuel filter (on later TJs its an in tank screen). Also check to see if you can feel any air coming out the tail pipe.

Had this happen on my work car.. 2006 Taurus with 33k on it. Zero power at load, but it would cruise just fine. We go through fuel filters like crazy... county uses above ground storage tanks that are literally falling apart from the inside out

I would lean more towards the fuel(pos contamination if fueled recently) or the exhaust clogging issue(bad cat or muffler)
I just had a new car friday at work with bad fuel(from costco in lacey) was filled 2 days prior.

Lot of gas seems to have water in it lately too

I wonder how that happened.??? Maybe they will now just add more alcohol to gas.

Somebody figured out that water is cheaper than gas and that the alcohol that is already in gas will absorb the water if they don't put to much in at a time.

Corporate profits are going up.
