Wife came home last night and said that they had another round of firing at the warehouse she works at. I would feel bad for them, as some have worked there for 10+ years, but most of them are so lazy that they should have been let go years ago. Good news it there is now way she will be getting smoked. I guess the owner and a couple of dept. managers were saying how great her dept. was doing and they are half the staff they were last year. Makes you feel good when times are bad your boss says your going a great job. Now I just have to hear it from my boss...

There is no such thing as job security. The last layoff I saw, the manager made her picks and then proceeded to layoff dozens of people thru out the day.
When she finally finished, Human Resorces called her into a confrence room and laid her off. I saw her sitting in her cubicle crying like a little girl.
Ya just never know. Good luck just the same.

It never makes sense what they do.

No shit.

I got laid off of one job 2 days after the owner of the company made a comment to my manager about what a good job I was doing.

This was your manager protecting his own job ... he was afraid that if you were doing so good as to get noticed by the owner, you might wind up being so good the boss would want to replace him with you.

It's a fine line you walk when you want to be the best employee you can be, but not get canned because you scare people further up the chain

Possibly.  Just seemed kinda weird at the time, especially since a couple of weeks earlier we (there were 4 of us) finished a job they estimated would take 2 weeks in just 4 days and he said himself "Damn, you guys really kicked some ass!"

Another thought....

Company cuts everything that looks like a money hole, is left with something profitable, but the owner knows it's not going to last.  So, they now have something that LOOKS profitable, sells it for every penny possible, and laughs to the bank.

New company has the old employees train new people, then cuts them because they are paid too much.

There is no job security.

Bullshit, it's called a government job,  where the standards are simply getting the bare minimum done, not the best

All of the compliment-now you're fired shit is the "new" way to do business.....get 'em calm, get 'em feeling secure, hurry up and axe 'em and shuffled out of the building before they realize they got fucked.

Don't get to secure in receiving compliments, and always be looking for a safe exit.
