| Thinking of getting a netbook/ mini. Figure there's less chance I'll lose it than I would a crackberry / PDA. Looking at the Dell Mini10. Not intended as primary www conx just a conx and notepad for me. Anyone with RL experience with them? |

I have access through work to just about all of them. I have brought a few home to try out as a the house laptop and we will be buying one soon. They are very nice for the price. There are even some non portables ones as well. I have seen an all in one Ala iMac with touch screen and some desktop based ones. As long as your no serious about gaming or any intensive cpu apps they are great. I would run Windows 7 RC on them I heard its da bomb. |

I have a Samsung NC10. If I'm buying today, I would get the Asus EEE PC 1000HA. I looked at the Dell Mini 9 and 10, but the Samsung and the Asus both have MUCH longer battery life. The Asus' battery does not protrude from the bottom of the case like the NC10. No opinion on the Dell or HP netbooks, guy at work likes his Acer. I am writing this on an Asus Eee 1000 HA and am very happy with it. They rate it at 6.5-7 hours with proper settings, I have gotten up to 5.5. $380 at Infotech in FWay, with rebate. |

Is battery life an issue if I'm essentially living out of my car (charger)? I don't see a CD drive on these so file transfer by cable? Yes, or wireless card, or USB CD-Rom. Honestly, if you have the money, skip the netbook, and get something like a Dell e4300... Full laptop, just a tiny footprint and external CD-Rom if you need it. |

Only you can decide how important battery life is; I wanted long battery life for use w/digital modes on pork radio, under field/emergency conditions. My ASUS has 3 USB ports and an SD slot. External hard drives, flash drives, and DVD/CD-ROM drives aren't too expensive. Again, only you can decide whether it's worthwhile having the small footprint and only plug in the disk drive for install/backup purposes, vs. having the disk drive built in. The netbook is a great second computer, not sure I'd be so happy with it if it was my only computer... |
